And then, God help me,Ikiss him.

The world stops. Then starts. Then moves in slow motion.

“Moonbeam.” His mouth nuzzles mine.

I open for him, taste him.

Bourbon.

Coffee.

Dom.

I know his flavors. I know how he feels. I know how he is. I knowhim.

He pushes his hips against mine.

He’s hard.

I’m wet.

I want.

I want.

I want.

The song stops. We stop.

I step away, shaken.

I can’t believe what happened. I can’t believe I let it happen. I can’t believe I initiated it.

I can’t believe I kissed Dominic Calder in front of all of Savannah.

She’s shut me out. Again.

That kiss—God, that kiss—it killed all the progress I made.

“Shekissed me and now she’skillingme,” I confess to Gabe as I watch Luna flirt with Devon Parker, who works for Gabe as the brand lead for the Rhodes Hotel Group.

We’re sitting at the edge of Gabe’s covered patio, overlooking his ridiculously plush backyard that feels more like the grounds of a boutique resort than a family home. The Rhodes estate stretches lazily along the Savannah River, with terraced gardens, a sprawling pool that glitters in the lateafternoon light, and a breeze that carries the scent of honeysuckle and slow-burning oak from the smoker.

Fairy lights are strung between live oaks, and a low jazz playlist is drifting from the outdoor sound system. This isn’t high-society Savannah with its pearls and posture. This is just us—family and friends, barefoot kids and dripping swimsuits, BBQ rib bones and laughter.
