He stifled a yawn.

Oh my God, he was. He could barely keep himself awake, but he was trying to fight it.

“Or you could put the plates in the fridge, and we could eat them later.”

“No, you ordered all those desserts—”

“And now I’m telling you to put them away.” I laughed sheepishly. “I’d go, but I can’t feel my legs yet.”

He gave a pleased smile. “Okay. Going.”

He threw the covers off and left. I heard plates clatter in the living room. A few seconds later, he came back into the room.

“All tidy.” He crawled in beside me and pulled me to him. “Just give me a sec. I’ll get something for us to…um…”

Then it was lights out for Epic, just like that.

Each deep, even breath he took puffed the hair at my temple. He didn’t snore. Didn’t move. I thought of about a hundred things I should be doing, but the pleasant ache between my legs and the warmth of his body made doing them feel like a hurdle I couldn’t begin to get over.

I did manage to get to the bathroom where I took care of business, washed my hands, and cleaned myself with a damp cloth. I took another cloth in to wipe sweat and jizz off Epic. He didn’t wake despite the cool air on his skin. I found the condom, tossed it into the trash, and left the damp towels draped over the lip of the tub.

Once I was back in bed, there was nothing left for me to do but study the half-moon shadows Epic’s eyelashes made on his cheeks and run my finger down his adorable nose and kiss the full lips that still looked swollen from use.

I made sure he was covered, and dry, and warm, and more because I could never fuss enough over my gentle, caring fake boyfriend.

Not when he treated me like I was precious to him.

Sure, there were problems on the horizon.

Enumerating them wouldn’t change anything. The most important thing was how we fit together here and now.

The little jewelry shop we’d visited that day seemed a million miles away. The moon earrings and the earth pin mere trinkets—pricey, well made, but essentially only objects, not portents.

Even so, like the earth and the moon, Epic and I were gravitationally predisposed to be in each other’s orbit, in spite of the long distance life placed between us, in spite of our age difference, in spite of…well…us.

Whatever one of us did would affect the other from now on. I knew it in my heart. I felt it deep in my bones. Was there any way at all for me to hold on to him?

For the first time in my life, the questions I had couldn’t be answered by working harder or denying myself. For the first time, I wanted something I couldn’tearn, and I didn’t know what to do.

Chapter Sixteen

Isnaked beneath the sheets to wake Epic with a blowjob. It had been a while, but it was like riding a bike. I knew what to do once I got going.

After last night, there was no going back. Epic and I spent the morning—after we ate a healthy breakfast and had a nice dip in the pool—finding new ways to sex each other up. This was how I’d ended up naked with my hands loosely tied to the arms of a padded wicker chaise longue.

At least I was in the shade.

“I can’t believe you brought cuffs.” Epic’s furry restraints had Velcro closures.

“They were still in my duffel bag from the last time I went to Comic Con.”

“Do I even want to know?”

“Probably not.” He grinned like a kid. “I could bind your feet, but I want you to be comfortable. “You’re going to be here a while.”

I didn’t have a clue what time it was. Noon, maybe? One? “Don’t forget, we came here to attend a wedding.”

“Which isn’t until six.”
