“Nothing, really.” I rolled my neck.

“Come on.” He reached out and started tickling me. “Tell me.”

“It’s not like that.” I squirmed away, laughing. “Stop. I was just watching the traffic.”

He stopped digging with his fingers to wrap his arms around me. “Hm. Sitting and thinking about nothing, huh?”

“I guess.”

“Almost like you were totally relaxed?”

“Shut up.”

“Like I’d fucked away all your worries and cares?”

“No, I’m not—” I sagged into him. “All right. You scrambled my brain. Yeah.”

His blue eyes sparkled with not-so-secret delight. “Glad to be of service.”

“Me too. I should sell myself to the study of anesthesiology.”

“You’d make a mint.” He kissed my neck. “I never sleep better than after I fuck you. Come here. This way.”

Somehow, he lifted me and settled back into the chair with me on his lap. I wasn’t really sure it would work because we’re the same size, but he opened his legs and let my butt fall between. I laid my head on his shoulder, and it felt…really nice.

Much better than sitting and watching the traffic alone.

“I could learn to live like this.”

He smiled and sighed. “Me too.”

“It’s not impossible.” I wrapped my hand over the nape of his neck. “It’s not. But you’re…you. You’re fast, and fearless, and up for any challenge. You’re miles ahead of me. Give me a chance to catch up.”

“I will.” He tilted his head to kiss me. “I am. There’s plenty of time.”

“For you, maybe.” I couldn’t help thinking about our age difference.

“For us. Don’t fret. Let’s enjoy this time we have together. What will you wear for the awards banquet?”

“I brought a couple suits. You can help me choose.”

“I only brought one.” He pulled me back against his chest. “You’ll have to live with it.”

His stomach rumbled loudly.

“Oh, dinner.” He was hungry.Shoot.“I didn’t make reservations. Let me call down.”

I rose to make the call. The clock showed ten after eight. “How does eight thirty sound?”

“Good. I’ll take a quick shower and dress.” He leered at me. “Want to join me?”

“If I do, we won’t get to the restaurant in time. Or I’ll be alone because you’ll be asleep.”

His cheeks reddened. “Good point. Be out in a minute.”

The shower ran while I chose slacks and a shirt to wear underneath a tweed jacket with my earth tack on the lapel.

Epic came out in a towel and we switched places. He got ready while I took a quick shower. When I returned, he wore the earrings I’d bought him.
