“Only those who use physical force against me,” I retort. “It’s fine, Evren. Do you want to go see the campus next or continue to argue about Orlo?” Crossing my arms, I stare down at her with my best “don’t fuck with me” look.
She squints at me for a second, then nods. “You could remove it, you know. Now that you’ve made your point.”
I glare down at her. “Out of the question.”
She steps into my arms. “Fine, let’s go.”
Exasperated, I take her to the area where we’re going to build the campus. She briefly closes her eyes, but when they open, she’s glaring daggers at me.
Ignoring the look, I turn her around to face the valley. “We decided this would be a great place for the campus. It’s sheltered from the harsh winds that can sometimes come down from the nearby mountains, and the natural barriers deter random visitors. What do you think?”
She waves a hand and brings up the sketches I showed her in The Abbey. “Where will each building go? Show me.”
I chuckle. She might want to be a little submissive in bed, but out of it is a whole different story. Using my own magic, I place the imaginary buildings over the land in front of us. “The main buildings will be in the center of campus and accessible to everyone. It will contain the food halls, dorms, gyms, and other common areas. The science building will be here. English here, math, languages, and the others.”
“Did you find experts to help you?” she asks, staring at the science building with longing.
“Surprisingly, there are quite a few demons, and several dead humans, who have the knowledge we require and are eager to help us build the school,” I tell her, still surprised by how many. “Although none have your level of expertise in science.”
She squints up at me as if assessing whether I’m telling the truth.
I look at her in disbelief, but she sniffs and looks away.
“Would you be willing to sit down and detail out everything we would need for the lab and classes? Think about it, and name your price,” I say, dangling the idea in front of her. I can’t help wondering what she’ll ask for… my help with the bombs?
She tilts her head to the side to study the science building. Her mouth opens, then closes. “If I do this, can I build the lab and study your blood?”
Surprised, I stare at her for second, then agree. “Done. Are you ready to go? I have court this evening.”
At the mention of Moge, she smiles. It’s so breathtaking, it makes me clench my jaw. “I can’t wait to see your court.”
I grimace. I wonder what she’ll think of it. “Ready?”
She steps stiffly into my arms.
Irritated, I detour to the habitat and stalk over to Orlo. Waving a hand, I remove my symbol from his neck. “Not a fucking word.”
He gives me a solemn look, but I see him blow a kiss to Evren behind my back.
“Insolent bastard.”
Her lips curve in a broad smile, and she drapes her arms around my neck. “Let’s go finish our discussion from earlier.”
The feel of her body brushing intently against mine drives every other thought out of my head.
ChapterThirty-Two
EVREN
Court is much more interesting than I thought it would be. The people present cases for him to review and determine a ruling. A dispute with a neighbor over land, a demon who failed to pay taxes for the last five hundred years, and an illegal gambling hall wagering with souls instead of gold. He deals with them efficiently and fairly.
The people at court are interesting, though. Some are there to watch the sessions or extend a sexual invitation to Lucifer, which I ignore, but the rest are waiting for their case to be called. I wonder how he determines which one to hear?
The council sits in their seats, whispering back and forth, but never asking a question or throwing out a suggestion. Why are they here if they’re not going to help?
Once he’s dismissed everyone, he turns to me. “Thoughts?”
“It’s tough to fairly judge your court on one session alone,” I start. “It feels like there are a lot of surplus people here with nothing to do.”
