When she doesn’t respond, I turn around to face her.

She’s staring at the pictures of Sophia on her phone. “Do you think she’ll be able to rest in peace now?”

“Her death is avenged, and her son is safe.”

At the mention of Sophia’s son, Quinn flinches.

The door opens before I can ask her about it. Cruz gets in. “All good?”

Cruz gives me a nod and turns to look at Quinn. “I made sure the surgeon on duty found them. He immediately rounded everyone up and got them moving to type the organs and contact Mexico’s transplant agency CENATRA.”

“Thank you. Maybe he can do some good in this world and save some lives instead of just destroying them,” she murmurs, her mouth twisted in thought.

Cruz darts a look at me. “Did we decide where we’re going next?”

I shake my head. “Not yet. Quinn, is there anything we need to do here?”

“No.” Her voice is small.

“Are you good if we head to Miami?”

She unzips the duffle beside her and pulls out my hoodie, the one I slipped over her last night. With a shiver, she puts it on.

I frown. It’s at least eighty degrees outside.

“Miami is fine,” she replies.

“We need to change cars first,” Cruz reminds me. “Sterling left us one by the tailor’s shop.”

When we pull into the lot, a dark grey Nissan Altima is parked right in front. “It’s three hours to Laredo, Texas, where we’ll cross the border. Let’s use the restroom and grab some provisions here. With the attacks last night, everyone’s on alert, and I want to get out of Monterrey.”

“Second that,” Cruz states firmly.

After gathering food and drinks, and using the restroom, we’re ready to head out.

Quinn stops to stare at a picture on the wall. “I can’t go.”

My eyes dart to Cruz, then back to her. “Why not?”

She taps the glass. “Eduardo. I promised Eduardo I’d get Rodrigo for him. I can’t believe I forgot about that psycho.”

“Rodrigo’s gone,” Cruz tells her. “I’ve got feelers out looking for him, but he’s not in Monterrey. Sterling also has facial recognition software running. If he goes through any transportation center, like an airport, we’ll find him. When we do, we’ll figure out a way to get to him.”

For a brief second, emotion flickers across her face. “Thank you.”

He runs his hands down her arms. “Believe me, we want the bastard just as much as you do. We’ll find him.”

She eases out of his hold and heads down the stairs.

Cruz’ mouth turns down. “This is going to be harder than I thought. I hate seeing her like this—so withdrawn.”

“She’s actually doing better than I expected. When Paulo and I finished getting our vengeance, we stayed drunk for three weeks.” I pause. “You know it’s going to get worse before it gets better.”

“I know,” he confirms. “Let’s get out of here.”
