“That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.”
“What?” His expression turns to one of confusion. “How the hell can that be?” His question only makes it that much more endearing.
“I can be annoying when I get excited. I clap or do a silly dance or I might even squeal.” I try to wave it off like it’s no big deal.
“Bullshit,” Spencer blurts out without hesitation. “Whoever told you that is full of shit.”
“You think?”
“I know.” He steps closer, his free hand cupping my cheek. “You have to be a really shitty person to knock something that makes a person happy. Especially when it’s something that doesn’t affect you.”
The more his words sink in, the more I realize he’s right. I never thought of it that way, but I wouldn’t ever put someone down for being happy or enjoying something.
“You’re right,” I admit, needing to say it out loud.
“That’s why they pay me the big bucks.” He wiggles his eyebrows at me, and I snort a laugh. “Come on.” Spencer leads me down the hallway toward the empty room he showed me before.
Only this time when he pushes the door open, it’s not empty. Since he helped pack up all the supplies I wanted to bring with us, he knew which bags they were in. Those items are now out and spread across the room on a couple of tables. He’s even moved two chairs in here.
“How?” My hand goes to my mouth in surprise as I stare in wonder. Okay, my shower wasn’t that long. When the heck did he have time to do this?
“I had a few things in the garage that worked. Then all I had to do was make a call to a local place to get the rest.”
The smile on Spencer’s face is so big that telling him he shouldn’t have done this is pushed right out of my mind. In fact, I let excitement bubble up and throw myself at him.
Spencer catches me, and I feel his arms lift me in the process. Without hesitation, I press my mouth to his, and he stiffens for a second. My body reacted before I could stop myself and realize I shouldn’t have done it. As soon as I begin to pull back, Spencer grips me tighter and kisses me back.
My lips part when his tongue strokes across my bottom lip, and I let out a little moan. The kiss grows deeper as my tongue strokes against his, and I try to pull him against my body tighter. A sweet ache pulses through me, mostly concentrated between my legs.
“Spencer,” I moan when his mouth leaves mine. Then I feel his lips move down my throat.
“You taste special,” he groans as his tongue licks up my neck. I swear everything this man says hits me in the right spot. It gives me things I didn’t know I needed and dare I say are healing me. “We should—” Spencer is cut off by the sound of his phone going off. “Shit, that’s Taylor. I should take it.”
“The guy with my stuff, right?” I ask while Spencer slowly puts me on my feet.
“Yes,” he says reassuringly as he pulls out his phone. “It’s going to be okay.”
Spencer reaches out and rubs his thumb over my bottom lip. I hadn’t realized I’d started biting it nervously. Taking a breath, I nod and remind myself that I can trust him.
“Hey,” he says when he answers the call.
Spencer tries to mask his expression, but I catch the flash of fury. “Can you track that?” he asks after a few beats. While Taylor is talking, his eyes lock with mine. “I don’t care if it’s illegal, I want answers.” Oh shit. I don’t want anyone getting in trouble because of me. “Let me know when you find out. Thanks.”
“What did he find out?” I ask as soon as he ends the call.
“There was a keylogger on your computer and a hidden tracker on the phone.”
“What?” I gasp. “He did that?” Geoff truly was bananas and did things I never thought he was capable of.
“Was he ever alone with your computer or phone?”
“I’m sure. He had lots of opportunities." When we worked together, I would always have my laptop and phone, and I wasn’t hovering over them the whole time.
“Taylor is going to track it to make sure that the information is being sent back to Geoff.”
“Is that the not legal thing you mentioned?” I ask.
“Doesn’t matter. If Taylor can track it back to his devices, then Geoff is going to be the one that’s fucking tracked.”
