“Okay, try the spell of concealment,” he said, stepping back.

I nodded. Despite the confidence and calmness in his voice, I didn’t miss the worry that was radiating from him…

It hadn’t been hard. I was a fast learner, and even at Christmas time, no one picked up that I was a witch. My spell of concealment worked, and I was just Raihana again; someone who refused to take part in a run even after shifting, who had become even more snooty and arrogant as of lately…

My friends had called me a diva when I said I didn’t want to get muddy. If only they knew my wolf was somehow trapped. Although Dad said he would look for a spell, he refused to allow me access to the books again. That was what I was looking for; the keys to the vault where he kept them. When I saw his office window open earlier, I had decided to take the risk.

The secret that had stayed between us was suddenly shared with Chris. I didn’t understand why Dad was adamant about having someone in on it, but he was, and I didn’t get why Chris, of all people. The man was as irritating and antagonising as he was handsome. I personally felt it was his looks that kept him from being murdered and buried years ago.

“So, there you have it,” Dad finished, sitting back after explaining it all. Chris was frowning; it was rare to see him so serious.

“You know, sooner or later, you need to tell the Luna. In fact, I think you should do it sooner,” he said suddenly. Okay, I wasn’t expecting that.

“When the time is right.” And I added icily, “I think we know Mom better than you do.”

“Raihana,” Dad reprimanded me gently. I crossed my arms and looked away.

“I don’t mean it in a bad way. I’m just saying you’re her daughter… if she realises that witches aren’t…” He seemed to change his mind and simply shook his head. “That’s on you. I still don’t get my part in this.”

Even I don’t… but I swear he’s just a blond, brainless buffoon.

“Maria and I are going to be going to the Ahmar Qamar pack to help with the wedding festivities of her nephew. Beta Jack will handle the pack here, but I wanted to appoint you as Raihana’s personal bodyguard for the duration of this trip. I understand that you are Delta, and this is beneath you, but as a favour… I don’t want something happening whilst I’m not around.”

So, Dad wanted someone who knew the truth about me to keep an eye on me? But seriously, Chris?

“Dad, isn’t Blake enough?” I asked, not missing Chris rolling his eyes.

I knew he and Blake never got on... but that annoyed me. I liked Blake. He was everything you could wish for.In fact, this could have given me and Blake alone time… but now…I glared coldly at Chris, who just gave me an annoying questioning smirk back.

“Blake is a strong warrior, but I trust Chris. If Rayhan hadn’t decided to go on this trip, it wouldn’t have been necessary. I can’t ask Lola as Jack’s teaching her the last bits she needs to know before she takes over as Beta, once Rayhan becomes Alpha,” Dad said, giving me a gentle smile. I rolled my eyes. You could never say no to Dad when he had that gentle look in his eyes.

“Fine. But, Dad, in these times of peace, I don’t get why you’re even stressed out,” I said, standing up.

“It’s good to be safe,” Dad said as I shook my head and walked towards the door.

“Can I go now? Seriously, Dad, I don’t think this was even needed.”

“Raihana, you leave pack grounds often for university, shopping, and whatever else girls your age do, so I need Chris there with you. At least I’ll feel at ease.”

I sighed. I didn’t expect Dad to get like this, but it was clear he wouldn’t listen. I wished I had asked him first why he wanted to share with Chris; he had only said he had his reasons… I should have gotten those reasons out of him and talked him out of it.But I hadn’t, and now I’m stuck with the banana…

I looked at the blond. If it wasn’t for his annoying attitude, one could say he was quite handsome, but let’snot forget, he had probably slept with all the single women in our pack… well, yuck.

I turned and walked out, slamming the door behind me.

Chris

Well, looks likesomeone is pissed off…

“Is there more to it? I mean, I don’t mind watching her.” I sure didn’t mind watching her. “But our pack has a lot of security. For you to want me in on this… what’s going on?”

“In the last month, three witches have been killed, and news has spread that the witches are getting angry. Last night, four werewolves were found dead. They had been killed by magic. The tides are changing, son… and I fear it won’t end well.”

“What about the Queen? Has she said anything?” I asked. He stood up and walked to the window, his arms behind his back. I knew Kiara Westwood was known for making a few predictions.

“No... but the darkness is coming once more. The Coven is growing, and more witches are entering the lands. They are building an army.”

“Then we need witches on our side,” I stated. He looked at me, and I could see the conflict.
