Icame out of the women’s bathrooms, right as Nyah walked into them. She grabbed me, clutching my arm.

I had to blink at her for a long moment to mentally place why she was even here.

I was pretty sure X had scrambled my brain, and it was no longer working properly. It was too blissed-out on the lingering tingles of the orgasm X had given me in that camera room to function right.

But when I came to, I realized with sharp shock that I’d completely forgotten about meeting her.

Instant regret filled me. “Oh my God, Nyah. I’m so sorry! I was supposed to meet you outside and—”

She shook her head, the widest grin I could have imagined all over her face. “No, don’t apologize. It worked out perfectly.” She checked to see who was within earshot, then leaned in. “I just had sex in the middle of the club!”

I widened my eyes at her. “Seriously? With who?”

She swiveled, pointing through the crowd. “See over there? The tattoo guy?”

My mouth dropped open when I spotted the man she was talking about. “Holy shit, I know him. That’s Dax.”

She pretty much hopped from one foot to the other. “I think I’m in love. That was the biggest rush of my life. I want to do it again. Vi, there was just this…I don’t know, chemistry between us. One minute I was helping him inside with his equipment and we were joking about me being his assistant. The next he’s got my tits out, sucking on them, and then my skirt up and he’s fucking me right there in the middle of the club while everyone around us watched.” She blew out a long breath that lifted her bangs.

I laughed at her. Her eyes were all sparkly, and her skin was glowing. She looked alive in a way she hadn’t earlier that day. I grinned at her. “You want to go for round two with Dax or hit up someone new?”

Her gaze slid back to him, and she grinned when she realized he was watching her. “Him. Definitely him. But I don’t want to seem desperate. Maybe I should play it cool…?” She reached for my hand and squeezed it. “I really need to go clean up. And you probably need to get to work. Your shift starts in a few minutes, doesn’t it?”

It did, so I sent her on her way, promising I’d catch up with her later, if she wasn’t too busy bouncing on Dax’s cock.

I raised an eyebrow at him as I passed and hid a laugh at the way he blushed and busied himself with his work.

I found Bliss behind the bar, serving up drinks with the prettiest of smiles on her face. Another sexy piece of lingerie clung to her curvy figure, this time a black number that plunged low between her breasts and was cut high around her thighs.

She didn’t seem to care one iota that her cellulite-dimpled thighs were on display, and I basked in her aura for a moment while she was busy with a customer. I wanted her confidence.I wanted to just drop the jacket I’d put back on over my corset after X had finished with me.

If I could get naked and have sex with him while a roomful of people watched us, then surely I could pour a few drinks in underwear that covered almost as much as regular clothes did.

Bliss did a double take when she caught sight of me. “Violet! What are you doing here?”

I blinked. “I have a shift tonight…don’t I?”

Bliss left her customers with their drinks and tugged me to the side of the bar. She was a good few inches shorter than me, and I would have guessed we were about the same age, but she stared up at me with a mothering expression of concern. “I heard about what happened—”

I shook my head quickly. “I’m fine. I don’t want to talk about that.”

Her full lips straightened into a concerned line. “I can imagine. And I’ve been in your shoes. I’ve had my fair share of traumatic events, so I know how numb you probably feel right now—”

“I’m fine,” I insisted.

It felt like Bliss’s eyes saw right through me.

But her voice was gentle when she spoke. “You’re not. You’re in shock and you’re doing whatever you can to not think about it. I get it. Trust me, I really do. But sooner or later, you’re going to crash down from the safety tower you’ve built for yourself. I’ve been there and seen it happen to my guys, and to Rebel, and when it comes, if you aren’t ready for it, it hits hard and swift and can be dangerous.” She took my hand and squeezed my fingers. “Don’t do that to yourself. Go home. Let yourself grieve and process your loss. You can work again tomorrow, or next week or the week after. Whenever you feel up to it.”

I really liked Bliss, but she had no idea what she was talking about. She hadn’t been there, in that empty warehouse, locked inwith a dangerous man, watching people die in the most violent of ways.

I didn’t want to go home and think about that. That was the absolute last thing I wanted to do.

But I could see, even though she was being gentle with me, she wasn’t going to back down. “You aren’t going to change your mind, are you?”

“I can’t make you go home. But you aren’t working tonight.”

I shoved my hands into my jacket so she wouldn’t notice the irritated clench of my fingers. I knew she meant well, but she wasn’t helping.
