“Why do you care? You took me against my will. Wouldn’t you say this was a mistake if you were me? I don’t even know you well enough to be on a plane alone with you.”
I chuckled with a shake of my head. For the first time, I put my crossword puzzle down and gave her my undivided attention. I stood from my seat and stalked over to her. I leaned down, then gripped her chin until our eyes met. I leaned in slightly until all she could feel was my breath against her neck.
“You sure you don’t know me like that? Why is your body begging me right now to put you out of your misery? I can see the hardened peeks of those pretty nipples, and I just know that pussy wet for me. I can taste you right now. I’m only going to tell you this once. Don’t say shit you don’t mean. I would hate to get the wrong impression and have to show you just how much you do know me.”
This time, when her hand went flying, I didn’t try to stop it. I allowed that familiar sting to connect with my face. The justifiedlook in her eyes was enough to make me groan aloud. I smiled down at her as I leaned in to kiss her cheek before releasing the hold I had on her.
I didn’t say another word before I found my way back to my seat, then picked up my crossword puzzle once more. The rest of the flight happened in silence. I figured she would take this time to ask more questions, but she didn’t, which let me know she was planning and scheming for the whole ride.
Which was fine for me. I needed a little bit of excitement. It let me know if she were ever in this situation with someone else, she would find her way to safety, but the bad thing was she wasn’t with the average criminal. She was with someone much worse. I wasn’t even considered a person.
It was one reason I never tried with any woman or tried to make a life for myself, but something about her pushed at the boundaries of what I felt I was worth or what I deserved. Some part of me, deep down inside, felt I deserved her, but that was not up to me, I told myself repeatedly. Once I got her in a safe place, I would leave her alone. No matter how perfect she felt to me.
I would enjoy the little bit of time I had with her, even if she planned to fight me the entire way.
“I know you’ve come up with this big plan, and I hate to kill your dreams, but it’s not going to work the way you think it will. I’m just trying to protect you. The normal law enforcement can’t help you, Skye. I am your best chance, and I’m also part of the reason you’re in this shit. Just allow me to get you out, and I will bring you back home.”
She finally looked up at me, and the once vibrant shine her eyes held in Fiji was no longer present. The stars she used to have were no longer available to me. I had snuffed out some of her confidence by bringing her here against her will, and I knew that.
“Isn’t that what all kidnappers say? I don’t believe it. I can take care of myself. Just let me go. It isn’t your business what happens to me, anyway. I come from a family who knows all about protecting ourselves. I know it doesn’t seem like it because I’m sitting on this plane with you, drugged, but I can do it. Just let me go, please,” she pleaded.
Her eyes misted over. I knew it was taking everything in her to hold back her tears, but I needed her to trust me. How could she trust someone who had broken it already? I released a sigh, then dragged my hand down my face.
“I can’t. I know what these people are capable of. If they get ahold of you, it’s over.”
I hadto get out of here. I didn’t know if I was being brainwashed or if he was truly trying to keep me safe.
“We’re beginning our descent. Please ensure your seatbelts are securely fastened.”
I made sure my seatbelt was locked in, then turned to look out the window as the plane made its descent. I didn’t know what I planned to do when we got on solid land, but all I knew was I needed to get back home. This was not how my trip was supposed to go. I was sure my friends and family were tripping. Not to mention, Jim was supposed to be picking me up from the airport.
“Why am I in danger?” I asked. I returned my attention to him to wait for an answer, but he seemed hell bent on keeping whatever the reason was to himself. “If you want me to trust you and not make this harder, I need answers, and I damn welldeserve them. I wasn’t in danger until I bumped into you at that damn resort, so how did I get into this shit?”
He released a deep sigh, then looked me square in the eyes. “You’ve been in danger long before I ever met you, but I can be honest and say I didn’t make it any better.”
I sat up straighter in my seat and lifted a brow. “I don’t know what you know, but you’re talking in circles. What the hell is going on? What do you mean, I have been in danger long before I met you?”
“That’s not my story to tell,” he said, then looked away.
I could tell he was through with the conversation, but I wasn’t, which made my miraculous plans for a getaway a thing of the past. If I was being real with myself, I didn’t even know how far I was from home, so I was going to have to wait it out.
I closed my eyes as the pressure within the cabin pressed against my temples. It was always that way with me whenever I was on a plane. I counted down for a moment until the plane’s wheels hit the tarmac. I peeled my eyes open to see Brodrick or Knox, whoever the hell he was, staring intently at me.
“Can I help you?” I asked, then rolled my eyes.
He chuckled and then covered his mouth with his hand. I looked over to the right out of the window. I wanted to see if I noticed anything that would tell me where the hell we were, but there was no such luck when the door to the plane opened.
“Do I need to carry you out of here or are you going to act right and walk?” he asked.
I lifted a brow as I unbuckled my seatbelt, then stood. “My legs work just fine, and you can bet you will never get to touch this ass again.” I threw over my shoulder as I made my way to the door.
“Mhm,” he mumbled behind me.
I ignored him and then carefully walked down the steps to make it to the blacked out SUV waiting on us. I pointed towardthe opened back door and he nodded. Without question, I slid into the backseat of the truck, then closed my door before he could slide in next to me. When I looked up, a stranger sat in the driver’s seat. He looked as if he worked out regularly. I could tell from back here he was a looker, too. Although I hated to admit it, he had nothing on my kidnapper.
“Sir, can you tell me where we are?” I asked, hoping he would respond.
“In a black SUV, oh and outside of an airport,” he answered smartly.
