How much of this was used on Nina? Or were all of them used? Did he even bother to clean between uses?

Undertaker hates the questions popping into his head. None of the questions are ones he wants real answers to, either. He’d like to think that what he imagines is much worse than what Nina went through, but he suspects he can’t even touch the reality with his imagination. It’s a blessing his mind isn’t capable of reaching those depths of depravity.

“Load up what you want to take in the back of the truck. I think the acid will need to be strapped down,” Ky says. “I gotta get out of here. I’m gonna puke.”

“Lex was really going to be his thirty-fifth victim?” Zane asks.

“Female victims, yeah, we think so. You and Phillip would be thirty-five males. Sound like he was going for an even seventy.”

Sighing, he looks around and shakes his head in overwhelmed confusion. “And this is my brother?Ourbrother?”

“Yep,” Venom says. “You’re not the only brother who tried to kill her. Which I owe you payback for, by the way. You got off fucking lucky getting kicked out of the club. I would’ve made you beg for death.”

“Trust me, I know I got off lucky. I’ve had a lot of time to think about things, and I don’t know how no one put me in my place before then. Hopefully knowing that I totaled my bike and broke my femur gives you some comfort. By the way, femurs are one of the hardest bones to break, and a bitch to rehab.”

“Did it hurt?”

“Like a motherfucker.”

Venom smirks. “Good.”

Ky’s phone rings, and he fumbles to answer it. “Colt? Is everything okay?”

“Is Lex okay?” Undertaker asks.

“We’ll be right there.”

“What’s wrong?” Venom asks, his eyes wide.

“She’s awake.”

They all breathe a collective sigh of relief. “Thank God.”

Chapter Nineteen

Griffin’s Beach

Lex

Venom and Undertaker walk into Lex’s hospital room, followed by Ky and Zane. It’s time. Lex squeezes Lucas’s hand as he sits beside her bed. She’s positive he hasn’t left since she was brought out of surgery.

“Baby, why don’t you go get something to eat?” Lex says.

Lucas shakes his head. “I don’t want to leave you.”

His cold has cleared up a bit, and she smiles. “I don’t want you to hear this.”

Sometime during her long nap of sorts, her eye swelling reduced, and she can see out of both eyes now. And without double vision. Considering the shape she was in days ago, this is progress.

Reluctantly, he nods and stands. “I’ll wait outside when I’m done eating, so have someone come get me, okay?”

She smiles at him. “Promise.” When he’s gone, she turns to look at Colt. “My fierce protector.”

“He was as much of a wreck as I was,” Colt says and lets out a shaky breath and glares towards VP in the corner. “What did you need to tell us?”

Theusis VP and Zane. Colt wasn’t happy to call VP after everything that’s happened, but Lex knows he deserves to know what Phillip said about Margaret.

“On the way to the house, Phillip talked to me when I was stuck in the trunk. Actually, he talkedatme because it was mostly one-sided, but he said something I need to tell you, VP. And Zane. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I don’t really know why he’d lie.”
