He needed to make up for his behavior with her anyway.
But now, Piperneedsus.
“Fuck, I hope he’s taking care of her,” Maddox growls, stepping on the gas pedal harder than he needs to. He runs a few red lights, but I don’t say anything as we make our way through town.
“You know he is,” I say. “You know he wouldn’t mess this up.”
But internally, I’m panicking.
I had imagined Piper going into Heat. We even planned a room for her.
But now? Right now, when the three of us aren’t there for her?
“Fucking bullshit!” Maddox slams on the brakes behind a car that stops at a yellow light. “Go!”
I’m ready torunhome if that will get me to her faster.
I’m so devoted already that even if she just wants Maddox and Poe, I’ll sit outside her door and make sure she’s alright.
I’ll clean all her nesting blankets even if she never touches me again.
“Hurry,” I grit out to Maddox, who finally just swerves around the slower car.
My inner Alpha has always been less dominant and more submissive.
I always want to please and worship, never take.
And I can’t do any of that if I’m not near Piper.
In reality, it only takes Maddox ten minutes to get us home, but it feels like an eternity.
“Sweet fuck,” Maddox murmurs as we head to the front door. “I can smell her from outside.”
Lemon bars and spicy mint waft down the driveway, and I’m instantly rock hard.
Get to her.
Worship her.
Maddox and I make it to her nesting room only to find Poe outside the closed door, pacing. His pupils are blown, his eyes nearly black, and his chest is heaving.
“She’s sleeping,” he says softly. “Nesting blankets are washing in the dryer.”
“Has she eaten?” Maddox demands. “What does she need?”
Poe nods to him. “Get ice water ready, along with any drinks we have with electrolytes. She’s eaten, but I want a snack tray on hand just in case.”
Maddox nods and heads to the kitchen.
Poe is still blocking the door when I take a step closer.
“I need to see her,” I demand.
His protective instincts are in full swing, and I know it’s not personal.
I would be doing the same thing if I had just knotted her.
He nods at me. “She’s sensitive,” he says. “Her last experience was bad. Someone failed her.”
