“There will be plenty of people there.”

He falls silent, fast. Like some of my patients who clam up when I ask a sensitive question.

“Go ahead, Kobrik. Say whatever it is. Friends shouldn’t keep secrets.”

He sets me on my feet and drags a finger down the left side of my face. So gentle, so light, leaving my skin tingling.

“I’m drawn to you, Kenzie.”

My lady parts wake up when he says my name in that deep voice. That should frighten me. Instead, my heart speeds up.

I don’t hook up on the first date. Or even the fourth. I don’t know this guy, but Iwantto.

“And I wish to take you home.”

“Are you planning on coming in?”

He stands tall and straight. Damn, he’s handsome, and cute, even if he’s shy about saying what he’s thinking.

About what we’reboththinking.

“No,” he says, to my disappointment.

It’s for the best. I don’t sleep with a guy until I’m further into the relationship. Much further, if even then.

“But I wish to know where you live,” he adds. “So I can spend more time with you.”

CHAPTER FIVE

KOBRIK

Kenzie fascinates me. She’s both forward and shy, and right now I’m not sure which I prefer in a female. I’ve never really cared in my past liaisons, but with her I find myself interested in more than arranging a mere pleasure mating.

She isdifferent. Genuine and full of life.

I wish to see her again, after I capture the grud.

“Thank you for waiting for the bus with me. I don’t like being the only one here,” she says as we wait on a main bus route.

“I would not leave you in an unsafe area.”

“You’re my knight in shining armor, Kobrik.”

“I wear no armor. Only knives and a blaster.”

“Spoken like a true alien.” Standing on her toes, she inspects the top of my collar. “You did a fabulous job applying the paint. I swear, you didn’t miss a single spot.”

Her finger glides along my jaw once more, making it near drekking impossible to keep my horns from bending back.

“How far down does it go?” she asks.

“It’s not paint.”

“A really good home concoction, then, which is smart. Paint’s not good for the skin.” She swipes two fingertips over the base of my neck, right above my collar, not realizing how she’s stirring me. “Seriously, how far down does it go?”

“Do you wish me to show you, female?”

Her brows scrunch together, then she teasingly slaps my shoulder. “There’s no way you painted yourentirebody.”
