“You are very observant, my sholan. Except you fell asleep before I could join you in bed. I was sleeping in one of the other rooms when you got home. The one with the larger bed.”

“That was my parents’ bed. Though it’s been empty for decades.”

“I like a big bed. Room to have a little fun.”

Even in the dim light coming through the window, I see the love in her eyes. My spirit soars and I still cannot believe she’s here.

“How did you get here? I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”

“You knew I was on Zyan?”

“I found out yesterday. I spent weeks searching for you on Earth, with no leads, then I was recalled home. Hunzu and others continue the search there. I had one last assignment to complete before returning to Earth. I was ordered to find a missing human at Earth’s embassy. You, my Lexi.”

“That’s rather ironic considering my father kidnapped me to keep me from you.”

I shake my head. “I spoke with him. He meant to keep you safe from others. Not me. There is much we must discuss with him.” I kiss her again. “Right now, I need to hold you.”

Concerned eyes capture me. “What’s wrong?” she asks.

“Too many thoughts. Of Narzan, of you?—”

She pulls me down on top of her, smothering me in kisses, running her hands up and down my torso, until the horrific images fade, leaving only the good memories behind. I was a fool to ever refuse her as my sholani. But no longer. She is mine!

I slide her under me and lift the shirt she wore to bed. Both cocks are hard for her.

My sholani spreads her legs as her hands explore the pleasure centers of my horns.

“I’ve missed you,” I say as I sink into her warm heat.

“Oh, God, this feels so right.”

“Fucking?” I ask.

“No, yes, I mean, being with you.”

When a tear runs down her cheek, I stop thrusting. “You don’t want me?”

She swipes the tear away. “Don’t ever think that!”

“Then explain your sadness.”

“I never dreamed my dad planned to take me off Earth, I swear. I thought we were going to Japan for a few weeks. Like other trips we’ve taken in the past. This whole time, I was afraid you’d think I lied to you.” More tears escape her eyes.

With my thumb, I wipe them away. “I never doubted you, sholani. I knew you would find your way to me if you could. And you did. You are mine, now, and I won’t let anyone take you from me, including your parents.”

“He’s a powerful man. That’s partly why I tried to keep you two from meeting. I didn’t know what he’d do to you.”

“He will accept me.Us. Because he will have no choice. You and I are heartmates. And no one, including him, will ever tear us apart again.”

CHAPTERFORTY-ONE

LEXI

When I leave my father’s office at Earth’s embassy on Zyan, I spot Lutan immediately. He’s standing across the hall, his arms folded across his massive chest, much as they were the day we left my house in Los Angeles. Except this time the guards don’t stand nearby watching him, expecting him to cause trouble. My father has told them this is his future son-in-law. That surprised me, more than anything that’s happened in the past few months.

As Lutan pulls me in for a kiss, I start to tell him everything since I’m so excited. “My dad doesn’t know how long he’ll stay on Zyan, but I have a job with him as long as he is. And he’ll recommend me to whoever takes his place when he leaves. Chief analyst. With access to data we can rely on from Zyan and Galactic Intelligence. No need to sneak around dressed as a man or carry a gun.”

“The fact that you will be safe is of utmost importance.” Lutan takes my hands in his as we head out of the embassy. “But will you be happy here, especially after your family leaves? We can return to Earth when they do, if you prefer.”
