Fuck, I’m doing it again. Getting all suspicious because I’m mad and embarrassed. Strike that. Just plain mad. Damn it, I was trying to help Lutan!
“I’m gonna piss all over the place if you don’t give me a toilet,” Moses yells out to the walls, louder than before.
Lovely. At least I’m not in the splash zone. I’ll still have to smell it though, but I’ve been in worse conditions, smelled worse things. Part of gathering intelligence. You don’t exactly see the nicer parts of the city.
Moses yells out again.
“I don’t think they can hear you. Or care.” I wonder if Lutan cares or if he stuck me down here because he truly believes everything he said. That I was at that hanger to warn the arms dealer about him.
“Where’d they catch you?” Moses asks.
“A small airfield in Van Nuys.”
“Sounds like Damon’s territory.”
“Yeah, that’s the guy.”
“He deals in blasters. That’s what these here aliens want. You workin’ for them, girlie?”
“I was trying to get a gun that wouldn’t fail! If you’d told me that damn gun didn’t have bullets, I wouldn’t be sitting in this stinking cell listening to you complain about not having a toilet.”
He eases back onto the floor. “A blaster’s gonna cost you. A lot.”
The way he says it tells me he has more somewhere. I could redeem myself with Lutan. Find out what he hasn’t been able to get from Moses. But that means getting out of here.
“I don’t think they’ll keep me long.” At least I hope not. “Tell me the message you want to deliver. And keep in mind, I’m gonna want a name in return. And it better not be bullshit or I’ll come hunting for you, with or without a gun.”
“What’cha gonna do? Sit on me?”
“Fuck off, Moses. If you don’t want to deal, just say so. I don’t need to take your shit. You’re not my only connection. I know people. People who don’t need guns to do damage.”
I’m not exactly talking out of my ass. I do know those people. They work for my dad, which means I won’t go to them. For anything.
With a sigh, I add. “I have money, Moses. Will that make a difference?”
“Shit, girlie, you should have lead with that.”
CHAPTERFOURTEEN
LUTAN
The guards in the security room of Zyan’s embassy monitoring the cells via video have all learned not to engage me. I nearly snapped the neck of the male who made an inappropriate comment about their lone female prisoner earlier. Hunzu wisely reassigned him to patrol the grounds while I’m inside.
“She appears to be sleeping, Warrior,” Third Lead Arven says as he adjusts the camera. She’s pulled the privacy screen by her bed to keep invasive eyes out, namely mine.
“You will ensure she gets whatever she needs, Arven.”
The male nods. “Who do you want to interrogate her?”
I tamp down the growl that rises too easily at the thought of anyone going near Lexi. “No one is to touch or talk to her. Is that clear?” This time I release the growl, to make sure he understands this female is under my protection.
“Understood, Warrior. And what of the humans? Our protocols is to inform the local law enforcement, Earth’s military, or their Department of Alien Affairs when we’ve arrested a human.”
“They are not to know about the female.”
The guard raises a questioning brow at me.
“My responsibility, Third Lead. Do not go against my instructions.”
