That was a lot of pressure that would crush her if she let it. She still had so many questions, and having him follow her blindly scared her. “What if I disappoint you?”

“As long as you never give up on yourself, you won’t disappoint me. You’re a strong woman, one who has an important destiny in front of her. I don’t know what it is, but I’ll be there for and with you.”

Rafe kissed along the hollow of her neck as his thrusts deepened. The orgasm struck without any warning, sending waves of pleasure through her. At the same time, Rafe threw his head back and roared so loud she knew the entire camp would hear them.

And she didn’t care. She wanted them to know she was his, that she belonged to this often-hard but fair-minded, determined, loving male.

He collapsed to her side, pulling her with him, his cock still pulsing inside of her. She lay pressed against his chest, her breasts squashed against the hard muscles. As she rested her head against him, her eyelids grew heavy.

“Tired,” she mumbled.

“Ah, too much too soon, precious. I shouldn’t have touched you.”

“Always touch me,” she mumbled with a smile curling her lips.

His chest vibrated with laughter. “I promise. Now, sleep. Tomorrow, we’ll start working on my plan to get Maddox back.”

Plan? He had a plan? If it got Maddox back, then she was all for it. Because having a blood-bond with a shifter meant nothing if she didn’t have the shifter. She peeked at her bond with Maddox. He was upset, lonely, and she couldn’t comfort him. But inside, her wolf jumped and howled with joy. Rafe wasn’t leaving Maddox behind.

She’d been racking her brain, trying to figure out how to get Maddox back without risking anyone’s life. And here Rafe had been working on a plan. God, she loved him more every day. He didn’t give up on people. Which meant they’d get Maddox back.

“I love you,” she said as she drifted off.

“I know,” he said, his hand stroking her hair as his arm curled around her, fully reminding her that no one could touch her as long as she had her men.

RAFE

Rafe heldAlyssa as she slept. His wolf remained unsettled, constantly pacing, except when Rafe had Alyssa in his arms. That settled his wolf, but never fully.

“Hello?” Tiernan called out as he entered the cabin.

Daylight streamed in through the windows. Given the height of the sun outside, Rafe guessed it was just after noon. He threw on his pants and met Tiernan in the main area of the cabin.

“Is Alyssa still sleeping?”

“I tired her out,” Rafe said, wearing a grin. He’d never teased Tiernan before, not like this, but the shifter needed to loosen up. He was home, among his pack, a pack that was respected, even if their alpha could be a dick at times. Then again, most alphas were.

“In my bed?”

“Would you prefer I took her on the floor? She deserves some comfort.” The grin he’d been wearing melted away. “She’s been through a lot, Tiernan. Losing Maddox hit her hard. She won’t admit it, but I see it in her eyes every time I mention him.”

“I know.” Tiernan collapsed in the chair by the fireplace.

“Is your brother letting us stay?”

“As long as we need, but the DSA’s been here looking for Alyssa. Liam thinks they’ll return soon. I suggest we leave before then.”

“Agreed. She needs a few days, and I need to speak with your brother to find out everything I can about Drake Novak and his pack.”

“Blackmailing Drake won’t work. Neither will threats nor bribery. Leverage maybe.”

“You mean kidnapping someone close to him?”

“There’s a female in his pack. A newcomer. I think Drake would trade Maddox if we took her. But even if it worked and we got away clean, I won’t be a part of kidnapping an innocent, Rafe. There’s risk, trauma. I can’t do that. And I don’t think Alyssa would condone it.”

“She wouldn’t. We’ll figure it out. I still want to speak with your brother. Just tell me what I need to know about him, and I’ll take it from there.”
