“We need to return. Face everyone,” she said as his hand slipped into her panties.
“Because they know about us?” he said with pride in his voice as his fingers moved through her folds until they found her clit. He pressed lightly, but it was enough to make her moan.
His lips brushed her ear, his warm breath taking away the morning chill. “I’m glad they know,” he whispered as his fingers kept circling her clit, causing it to swell.
She ground against his hand, feeling wicked and yet helpless as he played her body perfectly. Long fingers entered her at the same time as his thumb pressed against her sensitive nub. The orgasm slammed into her, faster and harder than last night.
Wave after wave poured through her until finally her knees buckled. Tiernan caught her, as she knew he would. He’d always catch her, and she loved that about him.
That devilish grin of his returned as he ran his wet fingers over his lips and licked them clean. “Your scent on me from last night was fading. It’s good to put my scent on you until we’re blood-bonded, so the other shifters know to avoid you. And the humans, well, the first one that crosses any lines will find himself dead, or in enough pain that he’ll wish he were dead.”
“You’d kill over me?” she said, shocked.
“Yes.” He gripped her jeans and yanked her forward until her chest slammed into his and he captured her in a kiss that made her toes curl. It would be so easy to give into him right now.
“I love that you’re willing to protect me,” she said as she tore her lips from him. “But I can handle myself.” She tapped the gun in her hip holster. “I’m a dead shot.”
“Then maybe you should protect me,” he said with a wink that made her smile as she fastened her pants.
Her mind that had been racing before had calmed after that last orgasm. Or maybe it was because he walked beside her as they headed toward the training center and she felt as if they were in sync. He kept talking about how she calmed his wolf, and yet he seemed to be having a similar effect on her.
She suspected Tiernan had no plans to hide their affair. He was proud of it and of her. He didn’t consider that she had a life before him, a life which she intended to return to after she completed the DSA program. Would this blood-bond cause a problem if she were hundreds of miles from him? Still, so many questions, but this wasn’t the time to ask.
The recruits, twenty-one shifters and seven humans, were heading inside the training center, except for Rafe, who stood outside, waiting with arms of steel crossed over his chest and powerful legs set in a wide stance. While Tiernan was handsome, lean, and powerfully built, with blue-gray eyes and short cropped blond hair, Rafe was rugged, large, intimidating, and utterly fascinating. Those brilliant green eyes that she loved never left her.
“I need to speak with Artemis alone,” Rafe said, in a brusque, no-nonsense manner. Tiernan scrutinized Rafe for a moment before he delivered a respectful, if hesitant, nod. She knew from experience it was damn hard standing up to an alpha such as Rafe.
“I’ll see you inside,” Tiernan said, kissing her cheek and squeezing her hand. It was encouraging and sweet, just like Tiernan. Each time he looked at her with that hopeful smile of his, her heart beat faster and she pictured herself holding her palm up, someone cutting it, and then Tiernan entwining his fingers with hers, forever binding himself to her. The idea of blood-bonding no longer seemed so scary.
A large hand gripped her chin, startling her out of her daydream.
“Are you injured, female?” Rafe asked.
“Let go. You’re hurting me.”
Instantly, Rafe released his hold, but his hand hovered by her face, his palm open as if he wanted to touch her.
Or maybe that was simply her wishful thinking.
What was wrong with her? It wasn’t normal to be attracted to three men at once, but she was. Normally, she’d think it was her body telling her she was lonely or needed a release, except she just had a release and several last night.
For once in her life, she didn’t think of the repercussions. Alyssa leaned her cheek against Rafe’s open palm and simply enjoyed the warmth.
“It’s okay,” she said. “I know you didn’t mean to hurt me.”
“You’re fragile,” he said, even as the pad of his thumb caressed her cheek. This alpha never seemed confused, except around her.
“You didn’t really hurt me, but it felt like you might crush me. You have a strong grip.”
A single finger glided along her jaw where he’d held her moments before. “The more I’m with you, the more I find myself forgetting you’re human.”
She laughed. “The last time someone said that, I took it as a compliment. Coming from you, I’m not so sure.”
“I’m merely stating fact. My wolf accepts you and you don’t stand out as human like the others. It’s in how you carry yourself, your attitude, the way you don’t fear us. It almost makes me think you’re not human. But then when I scent you, and as delicious as you are, everything I smell about you is human. Skin, hair. . .” He stopped and glanced lower. “All very delectable, though still very human. And humans are fragile compared to shifters. Another fact, nothing more.”
Another caress along her jaw sent her heart racing. What was it about these shifters that made them so irresistible, even the growly ones?
“You said you needed to speak with me. About what?”
