She reached over the seat and grabbed Tiernan by the white dress shirt he now wore. He’d stripped one of the unconscious DSA agents before they’d left the compound. The agent’s clothing looked too stark on Tiernan. The shifter belonged in jeans and t-shirts. Or better yet, naked.

“I would have given up anything to save you,” she answered, still picturing him naked.

“You shouldn’t have to give up anything. Or anyone. You love them.”

His expression, the sadness there, hurt to see. All she could do was nod. She didn’t have the answers. She only knew she couldn’t choose between the three of them.

“Love doesn’t stop because it’s no longer convenient or allowed,” he offered.

“What are you saying, Tiernan?”

“That I’d be okay if you still want to be with them. I want you to be happy.”

She bit her lower lip. This couldn’t be easy for him, for any male. Leaning over the back seat to reach him, she ran her fingers through his thick hair. “I love that you’re thinking of me.”

He took her hand in his and brought it to his mouth where he kissed her palm, the site of the blood-bond. “I don’t want to lose you, and I don’t want you to regret being with me.”

“I could never regret it.” She leaned forward to kiss him and her foot struck something that moved under the middle seat. She reached under and withdrew a black leather case. “I knew the bastard would have it on him.”

Alyssa quickly kissed Tiernan on the lips and then darted out of the SUV.

“The truth serum?” Rafe asked as soon as he spotted the case in her hand when she and Tiernan entered the shack that had served as the quarry’s office when it was still operating.

“I want answers. I’m giving him the same amount he gave me, so there’s no chance of overdosing him since he’s bigger than me, assuming weight dictates the amount.”

“That also means it may not be enough,” Rafe said.

“I won’t risk killing him.”

“I would.” Rafe put his hand out, expecting her to hand over the vial and needle.

“No. You can’t do anything to risk that treaty.”

When Gallagher woke a half-hour later, he struggled against the cuffs. “Deja-vu, right?” Alyssa said. “Except the roles are reversed this time.”

Gallagher scanned the office, noting the needle in her hand and Rafe and Tiernan standing behind her. “Kidnapping and drugging a federal officer is an offense that could land you in prison, Monroe.”

“Really? Do you think we’ll be roommates then, given how you committed the same crime?”

“I had the authority to interrogate you.”

“Funny how that works. I see you as an enemy combatant, which gives me that same right to use the truth serum on you.” She nodded to Rafe, who moved behind Gallagher and held him still while she injected the truth serum into his arm.

“You don’t want to make an enemy of me,” Gallagher warned as she filled the syringe.

“I’m shaking in my boots.” Rafe chuckled behind Gallagher. She glanced up and smiled at him before returning her attention to Gallagher. “You used me,” she said as she injected the serum. “I’m going to find out why.”

After waiting a few minutes for the drug to spread through his system, Alyssa leaned against the desk facing Gallagher. “You framed me for Graves’s murder, didn’t you?”

“Yes.” The man didn’t try to resist, which meant he knew it was useless or he didn’t care that she found out he’d framed her.

“Did you know I was working undercover for the DSA to find a WSSO mole?”

“Yes.”

“Do you know who the mole is?”

“No.”
