“Yes.”

His thumb brushed over her lower lip and glided back and forth, lightly, but suggestive. Her skin heated from his touch and her body grew quite aware of him. Damn, but he made her feel good, and right now, she needed to feel good, to feel like someone valued her. She stared at the gentleness in Tiernan’s face. That’s when she realized Maddox was gone. He must have seen the attraction building between her and Tiernan even before she did.

This mating thing was going to happen, and not just because Tiernan needed her. In a way, she needed him, too. Just the two of them this time, and more than a quick moment to get one another off to satisfy the lust that surfaced all too easily around him.

She slid her hand into his and they walked off into the woods, her heart racing the farther they got from the compound. Tiernan tugged on her hand and led her to an old wooden boathouse by the lake.

“Wait here,” he said, as he climbed the drainpipe outside to a second-story window, nudged it open, and disappeared inside. A moment later, she heard the door lock click. Tiernan opened the door from the inside and motioned her in.

“You move like a thief, Tiernan. I thought you said you’re a scout.”

“I am. Getting into and out of buildings is part of what I do.”

“And here I thought you were some super tracker.”

“That too,” he said with a grin that she adored.

The place had been emptied of boats, but the office remained intact. A desk, filing cabinet, two chairs, and a sheet-covered sofa.

“How do you know about this place?” she asked.

“I found it a few nights ago. When I can’t sleep, I run.”

“Can’t sleep? You mean because of your wolf?”

He cupped her face between his hands. “You’re safe with me, Alyssa. And you don’t have to be with me. I mean, I want to be with you, but only if you want it, okay?”

A warmth filled her as Tiernan stumbled all over himself, trying to make her feel comfortable. He didn’t realize she was comfortable with him. It was what was inside her that she feared.

He pressed his lips to hers. “I wish I could do better. First the woods, and now an old boathouse. You deserve comfort.”

My, oh, my, his lips were lusciously smooth and his tongue masterful, determined, and gentle all wrapped together. Like the shifter himself. He took his time, getting to learn her mouth and what made her moan. But it was the way his hands moved over her entire body that sent her heart racing and her pussy throbbing for more.

The simple touch of his hand glossing over the side of her bra and dipping in, touching the sensitive skin made her nipples harden. Then his thumb glided over the taut peak. Each touch made another part of her body sing until it felt like he was playing an instrument—her—knowing just where to touch to make her moan.

The sheet disappeared from the sofa next, and she was glad to see the gaudy red and black plaid fabric was clean, even if faded from sun. Tiernan stripped in record time and boldly placed her hand over his cock. Hard, thick, and long. Her mouth went dry, remembering when she’d gone down on him in the woods. Her panties felt too damn wet. Before her encounter with Tiernan and Rafe in the woods, she’d only been with one guy in her life, and their third time together, he’d run from her, literally.

“You smell delicious, Alyssa,” Tiernan said as he kissed his way between her breasts to her stomach. With a swiftness that surprised her, Tiernan removed her pants and ran his hands up her legs, slowly, sensuously, enough to make her wonder how many women he’d been with.

“You’ve done this before,” she said, even as he rolled her panties down, causing goosebumps to spread all over her.

“Once or twice,” he said, though she suspected the number was higher given how at ease he seemed.

“I haven’t—”

He halted immediately. “You’re a virgin?”

“No, but close. Sort of.”

He caressed her inner thighs without moving higher. “You either are or aren’t a virgin.”

“I’m not, but things didn’t exactly go well.”

Even when Tiernan had growled at Maddox, his eyes had never darkened to the deep gray they were now. “He hurt you. Whoever the bastard was that hurt you, I’ll track him down and see to it he never hurts another.”

Alyssa sat down on the sofa. “That’s not what I meant. Just the opposite. I scared him off, Tiernan. There’s something inside of me that isn’t right.”

Tiernan’s eyes returned to their normal light gray as he knelt in front of her. “You’re perfect, Alyssa. A bad experience means he didn’t treat you right. I promise this will be different. You’ll enjoy yourself.”
