The man pulled her in for a kiss, on hermouth. Jayce’s jealousy boiled to the top, which didn’t make any sense considering how often he’d seen Reece, Ivan, and Zev fuck her, let alone kiss her. But this man wasn’t part of their unit. He was an outsider, notfamily.

Melina cupped the man’s cheek before sliding away from him and heading straight toward Jayce. “How did your business meeting go?” she asked casually.

“Fine,” he said between clenched teeth.

She bit her lower lip and her eyebrows pinched together. She looked pale, hurt even, and he knew it had all been an act with the man.

“Did you enjoy your time off?” Jayce said, turning his back to her instead of pulling her into an embrace as he wanted.

The trio she’d been walking with continued down the corridor, returning to their lighthearted banter as Jayce entered the code and opened the door. Melina hustled inside. Jayce kept the door open a moment longer for Ivan and Zev, who’d watched the entire exchange as well.

As soon as the door closed, Melina sank her fingers into Jayce’s hair and stared into his eyes. “Are you okay?”

He couldn’t find the words. Nothing came out when he opened his mouth. That had been happening too much lately, and not only around her. With one somewhat shaky hand, he drew her body against his. He needed to feel the soft crush of her breasts against him, and the perfect way her pussy nestled his growing cock even with the layers of clothing between them.

“Yeah, you’re okay,” she whispered as her lips slid to his ear.

Ivan cleared his throat, the impatient bastard.

Melina’s hand slid to Jayce’s chest as if she wasn’t ready to let go of him, as she leaned toward Ivan to kiss him next.

“You left the safety of this room. Anyone could have seen you,” Ivan scolded as only Ivan could. But Melina’s light didn’t dim. If anything, she appeared stronger, more confident than he’d ever seen her on Veenith.

“Everyone saw me,” she began. “Along with many other women on the promenade. No one questioned my presence in the shops, Ivan.”

“You shouldn’t have risked yourself.”

“I couldn’t stay in here and do nothing.”

“You’re the one Namir is after.”

“He’s after all of us.”

Ivan’s eyes slid to Zev. “Thanks to him.”

“You want to keep hurling accusations, Ivan? Then at least be man enough to listen to what I have to say.” Zev was pissed.

Melina slipped her hand into Jayce and pulled him into the bedroom. She shut the door behind them and leaned against it, taking a deep breath.

Jayce stared at her, not sure why she’d dragged him in with her. “I should be out there.”

“To defend Zev or gang up against him?”

“Doesn’t matter. Either. Both.”

“No,” she said amidst raised voices from the other room.

“No?”

“A lot has happened, Jayce. Ivan will explain it to you, or maybe Zev will, once they stop yelling at each other and learn to listen. In short, Zev made some judgment calls, ones you and Ivan may not agree with, but he’s not loyal to Namir. He’s been working for The Company.”

Jayce kept his voice neutral. He’d guessed as much, but that didn’t change much in the end. She didn’t understand who she’d gotten herself involved with, that it wasn’t Zev and his lies that put her at risk.

“What do you want from me, Melina?”

She moved in close, giving him no out as she blocked the door. “I want you to forgive yourself.”

“You don’t know what I’ve done. You know nothing about my past.”
