“C-civil?” she said, barely able to push the word out.
Her knees buckled, and he caught her, lifted her, and placed her back on the bed. She scurried to the wall, too scared to even reach for a blanket and cover herself.
Jayce frowned. “I tried to make it good for you. I thought it would be better this way. If I took you when you’re relaxed.”
“I d-didn’t inv-vite you,” she said, her teeth chattering wildly now.
“I don’t need an invite.”
“Y-yes you d-do.”
He scrubbed his hand over his clean-shaven face. “I don’t understand any of this. Ivan said I could take you, then he said I couldn’t. You’ve been with Crusher and Zev. We’re part of the same unit now. You belong to me as much as them.”
“B-Belong to n-n-no one.”
“I wasn’t trying to scare you.” He reached for her leg and she jerked away. His frown deepened. “I tried to be gentle. You were enjoying it. You moaned, for fuck’s sake.”
“I thought you were Reece,” she said, knowing he was right. She had been enjoying it.
“I shouldn’t have said anything. We both could have enjoyed this if I’d kept my mouth shut and just fucked you like you wanted. Like we both wanted.”
“You t-tricked me.”
He shrugged. “You learn to do what it takes to get what you want here.”
“I’m n-not p-p-property.”
His eyes jerked up. “What do you know? Who told you?”
Told her? Told her what?
“Leave,” she said.
He reached forward and petted her hair. “What will it take to let me fuck you?”
“Since w-when do you want my p-permission? You don’t give a damn about me, J-Jayce. If you’re going to rape me, do it and get it over with. I don’t want to live in fear anymore.”
His faced twisted, and then he said, “Ivan said I can’t force you.”
Ivan said. It was like Jayce had lost his moral compass, if he’d ever had one. But he listened to Ivan for some inexplicable reason.
She looked into Jayce’s green eyes as he reached for her again. This time she didn’t move as he caressed her cheek. Hope swirled in his eyes, and something more. Loneliness. Loss.
He inched closer, and to her shock, she didn’t jerk away or yell for Reece but allowed Jayce to capture her mouth in another kiss. His hand cupped the back of her head most tenderly. As he held her, his tongue slowly moved through her mouth, gliding over her lower lip, and then lower, down her jaw and back up behind her ear.
This wasn’t just sex. This was Jayce making love, or trying to give her what he thought she wanted.
She found herself on her back as he licked that spot behind her ear that always made her melt. At least it had for Reece, but he’d been the only one in all the years, of all of Namir’s friends who had touched her.
Jayce touched her with tenderness. He was very much like Reece in that sense, but not protective like Reece, not as interested in what she wanted. Jayce sought to satisfy his own needs.
His knees nudged her legs open without using force. She wasn’t sure why she was giving in to a man she didn’t know. A man she had feared. It was strange how that fear had washed away when she’d found herself in his arms, with him caressing her back and talking to her in a calm voice to help her breathe again.
His cock slid into her folds, sparking her desire. This wasn’t the way to get to know the man.
Namir had trained her too well. To give in, to let other men use her.
And she needed to let Jayce claim her. She needed these men if she was going to survive Veenith.
