Epilogue

HANNAH

Hannah sat on the sofa, leaning against Ren when Ky’Li returned home. Her soldier’s eyes ran the length of her body, ignoring the fact that Ren sat there caressing her leg.

“You’re well, sha’vi?”

“Now that you’re here, yes.”

Ky’Li smiled at that as the back of his hand brushed down the side of her cheek.

Hannah’s entire body melted. She had all her men around her and would for years to come.

Foley accepted Ren’s offer to continue working on Narkos, even though he’d completed his term. The days he worked would be credited against what the others in their unit owed. Foley had also reinstated and registered Hannah’s unit with The Company, making them official anywhere they’d ever go. In time, all four men would be free to leave Narkos, though none of them would, not as long as she remained here. Nonetheless, Hannah wanted them to have the option. As hard as it would be to lose any of them, they may want their children to return to Argus, and she wouldn’t send their children off without family.

Ren placed his hand on her belly. “Such a tiny bump. Are you sure there are two in there, Vaughn?”

“Again, questioning my skills as a doctor,” Vaughn quipped as he set the table.

“Twins? Are you serious?” Sersie asked as he entered the common area.

“Of course, I’m serious. Why would I joke about that?”

“Who’s the father?” Sersie asked.

“Fathers. At least possibly. The twins are fraternal. Separate sperms, separate eggs.”

Sersie scraped his fingers through his hair. “Two. . . Wow!” Sersie’s hand shook as he reached for the water pitcher. Hannah caught Vaughn’s expression. He worried about Sersie, too.

“Who?” Sersie asked.

“You sure you can handle it?” Vaughn asked. “No matter who? You’re the last one to weigh in. Everyone else is fine with not knowing.”

“You mean you don’t know yet?”

“I’ve only checked the health of the fetuses at this point. Nothing more.”

“It’s scary, but I’d like to be a dad someday.”

Hannah rose from the sofa and leaned into Sersie. He relaxed the moment his arms wrapped around her. She relaxed too. Feeling him against her reassured her that he would be fine. That he was strong. He just needed a reminder of that every now and then. They both did.

Sersie kissed her long and hard, in front of everyone including Ky’Li. “You have a death wish,” she said as he ended the kiss and nodded toward Ky’Li.

“Hardly,” Ren said. Ky’Li won’t kill him until he knows who the father is.

“Asshole,” Ky’Li said.

Vaughn chuckled. “I’ll do the DNA test tomorrow. Do we want to know the genders?”

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Maybe.”

“Yes.”

Vaughn scrubbed his face. “Lovely. We better find a better way of making decisions around here or this kid, excuse me, thesekidswill rule this house before we know it.”
