“You can’t turn him in,” Sersie said.
“You’d betray a brother?” Ky’Li asked, shocked.
Vaughn didn’t care what Ky’Li or Sersie thought. He was in charge here and he was too tired to deal with anyone’s attitude.
He stepped up to Ky’Li, glaring at him. “Do you know how many miners could have died yesterday because he ignored a maintenance alert?”
“He’s part of our unit. We protect one another. It’s what Hannah wanted.”
Vaughn didn’t need to close his eyes anymore. He could still hear her parting words, the fear in her voice, as the guards dragged her away.
“I’m doing exactly as she asked. Grab Ren, or step aside and I’ll do it. This is one time I’m not covering for him.”
