The walk to the safe location Ky’Li had been stocking with supplies over the past six weeks wasn’t far. Hannah’s eyes remained empty, but Ky’Li talked in low whispers for her, hoping to help her through the trauma, the shock.
His stomach knotted at how pale her skin had turned, at how unresponsive she was to his words. Ky’Li continued to speak of his family growing up, the games he liked to play as a child. . . He even spoke of his squad and how he had disgraced them. Dark green eyes remained on him the entire time, but still, she said nothing.
Inside a small cave that was far from any path and structure on Narkos, one Ky’Li had ensured could not be seen from any vantage point, including the tall succla trees in the distance, Ky’Li set Hannah down on a bedroll. He placed a waterskin to her lips, but she would not drink. He trickled the water into her mouth, but the water poured back out.
“You must drink, sha-vi.”
No response.
Ky’Li placed two blankets on her to keep her warm. He couldn't start a fire until he returned in case anyone was near. While he hated to leave her alone, he had no choice. Until he found out exactly what happened at that assembly today, taking her near any part of the colony was risky.
“I’m going to get Vaughn,” he said as he kissed her forehead.
“Vaughn. . .” It was the only word that left her lips before her eyes closed again.
“Sleep, sha’vi.” This will be over soon.
