“Hell, you scared me. Thought you were Ren or Ky’Li. I’m sure glad I don’t have to explain why I’m shoving my cock up against their backside.”
“What a picture,” she laughed. “Did I take your bed?”
“Yeah, but no problem. I’ll go up to the top bunk. Go back to sleep.”
Her hand touched his leg. “Stay.”
“You sure? I don’t want to keep you up.”
“I w-wasn’t sleeping. Couldn’t.” She huddled tighter under the blanket even though the house was warm, unusual for this time of year.
She sounded off. Did she have a fight with Ky’Li and left him in the other bed?
He slid in beside her. She was naked and shivering. He curled around her and placed an arm around her midsection to pull her in tight against his body. “What’s wrong, Hannah?”
“Nothing.”
“Please, babe, let me help you.”
“I d-don’t want to talk right now, okay?”
He wrapped his arms around her and rested his head on her shoulder. Within a few minutes, her body relaxed and she no longer shook. Something had happened today, and she was inhisroom. She’d sought him out, not one of the others. Unless she’d been expecting Ky’Li. . .
“Were you waiting for me?” he asked. “Or just looking for a place to sleep?”
“Wanted to see you. Is that so hard to believe?” she asked as she snuggled into him. He caressed a breast. Her skin was so soft, and he had her to himself. He thrummed her nipple, pleased at how quickly it hardened beneath his touch.
“Not hard. I meant that’s not hard to believe. But you’re makingmehard,” he said.
She wiggled her ass against his length. “I didn’t come for that.”
“No?” he said as he massaged her breast deeper.
“I didn’t say I’d refuse,” she said before a moan escaped her lips. “I just wanted to see how you’re doing.”
“I’m fine. Fabulous. Awesome.”
“Again, we’re not talking about your performance in bed.”
“I wasn’t, but thank you.” He kissed the back of her neck. She smelled so fucking good. “You’re not too bad yourself.”
She glanced over her shoulder and smiled. It wasn’t one of her wide, all-consuming smiles that made him forget everything except her, but he’d take any smile she offered, even a hesitant one. He loved every one of her expressions.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” he asked. “You seem slightly off, as if you’re not sure of yourself.”
“Tell me about your day,” she said.
“I’ve had a busy day. Week, actually. I’ve got a lot going on lately, with this drug, with you.”
“Did I do something wrong?” she asked, her voice filled with worry.
“Nothing at all. I just, well I never really got to talk with you yesterday, after Ren, Vaughn, and I. . . I mean with all of us at once. We never really asked you what you wanted.”
She sank back into him, running her leg up and down his calf, as if touching him calmed her. He so fucking loved her touching him like it was the most natural thing in the world.
“It was a bit overwhelming at first,” she said, her voice lighter than before. He caressed her arms as she spoke, loving how smooth and soft she was.
“I’m not sure how to describe it. I felt protected and loved and finally at peace, as if it was where I was meant to be. Like I’d finally found my family, Sersie. Like I was home.”
