Her voice had long since disappeared, partially out of fear she’d say the wrong thing or worse, start another fight. She wondered when they’d lost the ability to simply talk. This wasn’t a time to talk, however. She needed him to know how she felt about him, that she didn’t see him as a monster, not in the least.

She slipped the condom into his hand. He had her answer now.

With a suddenness that startled her, he rolled her onto her back and pinned her arms above her. There was a wildness in his beautiful brown eyes, a need that mirrored the one in her soul.

His mouth slammed down on her, his tongue forceful as he demanded entry. Opening for him happened easily, without thought. She’d deny him nothing now; she knew that the second he spoke of carpeting. Such a foolish, frivolous thing to go gaga over, but she had. Callen cared about her, what happened to her. He wanted her to have something to make her feel special. He didn’t realize he’d already given her something much more precious; he’d worried about her, made arrangements for her, continued thinking of her even when they both knew they’d never see each other again.

Callen’s tongue moved lower, down her jaw, her neck, until he found her breast. That sensuous tongue of his glided over one nipple then the other, making her breasts ache for more.

His mouth continued moving lower. Wide shoulders nudged her legs apart, none too gently. He was demanding, determined, and his tongue felt glorious, flat and broad, and licking in slow, long strides from her core to her clit. The heat pooled in her belly as his lips clamped down on her clit. As he sucked on her, her entire body thrummed with a need for something more, though she wasn’t sure what. Then he reached up with one hand and fitted his hand over her breast, squeezing. Her back arched as the orgasm took her by surprise. A low growl surrounded her soul, guarding it at her most vulnerable moment.

As her body fell back to Earth, the warmth of Callen’s body pulled away. The rip of foil scared her a bit, but she stayed focused on his face. Slowly, with bright yellow eyes, the eyes of a hunter, he climbed his way up her body, his hips pinning her down as his cock slid into her folds. His naked flesh warmed her body, but melted her heart. Having his weight press down into her, but not enough to crush her felt so natural, so right, but the fear of the unknown rose within her.

Her hands clenched the mattress as he pressed the tip of his cock into her. Even as her brain froze up, her hips lifted off the mattress, seeking his heat, his possession. To her surprise, he moved slowly, almost too slow. Her entire body ached for something more. She suddenly understood why he was going so slow as the pressure intensified, and pain flared deep inside. His mouth clamped down on hers, distracting her with the strong sweep of his silky tongue as he suddenly pushed into her and stopped, waiting for her body to adjust to the intrusion, for the pain to subside. He kissed the tear that escaped her eyes, and then the pain and all the fear faded, replaced by a feeling of being protected and cherished, of being home.

Callen eased himself into her until he was seated to the hilt. He withdrew partially and pushed back in, creating a new heat within her. His thrusts were slow, gentle, and measured, until she groaned. Nothing had ever felt so good as him moving inside of her, of finally being one with Callen.

The pace of his thrusts increased, as did the deep moans rumbling from his throat. Those were the sweetest sounds she had ever heard, Callen moaning, because of her. Kate opened her eyes, wondering when she’d closed them. He was staring down at her with an intensity that made her gasp. Her hips rose to meet his, trying to join him, to be a part of him.

“Oh, God, Callen,” she said as he kept striking a spot that sent a fire through her so fierce she lost the rhythm. It didn’t stop him though, as he took control. With his hands, he pushed her knees to her chest, changing the angle and making her eyes roll back in her head.

“You’re mine now, Kate. Never forget that.”

With long hard strokes he filled her and made her soul melt all at once. He took her with a possessiveness she didn’t realize he felt for her. As he wrapped her legs around his back, she gripped the back of his shoulders, digging her nails into his hard muscles, anchoring her body to him as much as she had her heart all those weeks ago when he had sacrificed himself for her.

One particularly forceful thrust sent her eyes wide open. Her head slammed back as the orgasm took over her body, seizing every muscle and nerve all the way down to her toes.

Callen threw his head back, showing the long muscular line of his torso as he held himself inside of her. The odd mixture of pain and pleasure, strength and fragileness, longing and fulfillment, crossed his handsome visage. He had needed this as much as her, maybe more. She was unprepared for the shock of him sliding from her body, the emptiness he left behind, like the emptiness she’d feel in her soul when he left to return to his pack.

All those feelings of being abandoned returned tenfold until he pulled her against him, locking her into the safety of his arms. She pushed her anxiety aside, determined to enjoy the here and now, remember the feel of him inside of her, of moving as one, of the peace in his face as he found his release. She had slid into his bed knowing he had already chosen to return to his pack, and that the loss would overwhelm her in time. But not now, she couldn’t let it, not while he held her as if nothing else mattered to him but her.

“I’m not going back,” he said, as he pulled her right hand onto his chest and interlaced their fingers. His eyes were open, staring at the drab ceiling, and she could hear the sadness in his voice, the utter devastation.

Her heart lifted, knowing he’d chosen her over his pack, but the idea of never returning to them was gutting him.

“Tomorrow, we’ll find a place and do what we can to help them. One day, Anna and Alex with find a cure, and then I can go home.”

She’d have Callen with her, but his heart would always be elsewhere. And the hard truth was Anna and Alex may never find a cure. Callen would remain in exile, for her, giving up everything he lived and fought for. He’d spent weeks protecting her. Now it was her turn to protect him.
