“I told you who I am. And as I said, we’ll discuss the rest when where somewhere safe.”
“Even if I agree to go anywhere with you, it won’t be those cursed woods. I finally found my way out of there.”
“I can protect you better in the woods.”
“Not happening. And for the record,Callen, telling me your name doesn’t mean I can trust you.”
His jaw tightened. “Fine, we stay here, but we have to get off the streets. Know any place to hide, some place private?”
Private? Hell, no.Just because he saved her from the WSSO mercenaries didn’t mean she could trust him any further than she already had. She tightened her grip on her backpack, mentally trying to picture exactly where that gun was. She should have put it in an outside pocket.
“If you prefer some place public, that’s fine, too. Riskier, but I understand.”
He was smart, this guy. Good at reading people, better than her probably. Either way, he’d left it up to her, which was a point in his favor. When it came right down to it, she was in trouble, and she needed help, at least until she found a way past the WSSO. She had no one else to trust, and this wall of muscle had already saved her twice. It wouldn’t be the worst risk she’d taken this year. . . or even today.
“One or two places come to mind.”
