BLADE

“Idon’t like it,” Frank said. “It’s been too quiet.”

Blade finished stacking logs in the fireplace. In the two weeks since they had arrived, the temperature had dropped. Thanks to their shifter genes regulating their body temperature, making them adapt to all but extreme conditions, he and Frank barely noticed the change in temperature. Anna, however, shivered constantly as if she couldn’t get warm.

“Quiet’s good. In fact, you can go back to the pack. We’ll be fine here without you.”

“She still won’t have sex here with us around, will she?”

Blade growled. “No.” Except for some light petting during their picnics and walks away from the cabin, Anna had been too skittish about having sex anywhere where the others would hear them. Now that she understood how far shifters could hear, she was less inclined to be intimate with Frank or Callen nearby. Her solution had been some amazing blowjobs in the cabin, the bunker, the cave. . . everywhere and anywhere out of visual range. While he loved having his cock in her mouth, he wanted more with her, for her.

“Get rid of the death squad,”she told him when he suggested anything more complex than having her on her knees in front of him. Thedeath squad—a.k.a. Callen and Frank—had their orders, though with only Frank around at present, perhaps Blade could find a compromise for an hour or two.

“Have you seen any signs of me going feral lately?” Blade asked.

“No. I’m guessing that’s because your cock’s been in her mouth more often than not.”

“It’s comments like those that landed you in isolation most of your sentence.”

Frank shrugged, letting the comment roll right off of him. “You know I had no choice.”

Blade released a deep breath, losing any desire to tease Frank further. The shifter had literally sacrificed years of his life for their pack. “Yeah, I know. But I want this to be good for her. We have enough issues right now without the privacy thing.”

The dark blond shifter lifted his amber eyes to Blade. “You thinking of telling her tonight?”

“Maybe, if the moment’s right. If no one’s commenting from a distance,” Blade added with an overexaggerated glare at Frank.

The large guard squeezed Blade’s shoulder, harder than necessary. Blade sucked in the desire to wince. Frank didn’t seem to recognize the full extent of his strength.

“Say no more. If I had a girl like her. . . Hell, if I had a girl. . .” Frank scrubbed his face. “You know I’d be doing the same. Anna deserves better. But she’s stuck with you.”

“Hilarious. I’m laughing my ass off. So. . .” Blade said in an easy-going voice. If Frank came up with the idea on his own, then he’d make it happen. If Blade suggested Frank take off, then Blade would have to be content with more oral, not that he was complaining.

“I get your drift. How about I extend my patrol an extra few miles? Would that work?”

“Perfect.”

“Just tell me when.”

“When.”

Blade kissed the nape of Anna’s neck while she peered through a microscope. “I like when your hair’s up like this,” he said, kissing lower.

Her chair squeaked as she twisted to meet his eyes. “Have you always been this impatient?”

“I’m a hungry shifter.”

“I think I have some snacks left hanging in a bag next to my jacket.”

“That’s not what I’m hungry for.”

“Then what. . . Oh!” She laughed. “Sorry, babe.”

He liked when she called him ‘babe’. It sounded naughty and definitely got him thinking about new ways to make her scream his name, or ‘babe.’

“I’m not at a stopping point, though I’m glad you’re here. I need a sample.”
