“You know I’m working.”
She blew on her ramen. “Liar. Are we going to talk about it, or are you going to keep looking at me like you want to hack my phone?”
I raised an eyebrow. “I could, just so you know.”
“You’re such a nerd. Anyway, who is she?”
“Her name is Zanaa,” I noted as if it wasn’t a revelation.
“Oooh, it is real. What does she do? Is she a secret agent too?”
I laughed. “Everyone’s not in the family business. She’s an astrologer and runs a blog and podcast on social media.”
“You’re shook,” she said, narrowing her eyes.
“I’m not?—”
Amir interrupted. “Yes, you are. I can see it.” She paused while she slurped another noodle. “Are you going to tell her or keep staring at her like a Ted Talk?”
“The truth is, I’ve admired her online, but we just met in real life, and I don’t know if I’m even on her radar.”
“Wait, so you’ve been lurking in her comments? Boy, please, ask her out. Worst-case scenario, she blocks you.”
I shrugged, redirecting the topic. We slipped into easy conversation while she filled me in on finals and her new roommate, who was a walking red flag, but at least she paid for her own weed.
Amir looked so much older than the kid I left behind when I moved out, and I wished I could call my mom and ask if I was doing any of this right, but she was no longer here.
“Zanaa, huh?”
“Yeah,” I admitted.
“Call her.”
“It’s not that simple.”
She shrugged. “That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try.”
We ended the call a few minutes later, and I still Venmoed her money because old habits die hard.
That evening, I opened Zanaa’s blog and read.
Some people come into yourlife like comets. Others are constant, and then there are the ones who know your chart by heart, before you even ask.
I smiled and clicked on the comment box. There was no way to say what I meant without sounding like every other man who’d tried to hit on her, but I typed anyway.
Your words are dangerous. And I’m better for it. —J.
I didn’t sign my full name. No need. She’d know.

My screen had dimmed twice.I’d been staring at Jules’s number for so long, which I added to my contacts in my phone. It had been three days since he gave me his number at the café. I took a deep breath and typed.
Me:
You never told me your last name. Tell me something that’s not in your chart.
I hit send before I could talk myself out of it. I tossed the phone as if it were burning hot. What kind of opening line was that? I hadn’t even said my name, but normal hadn’t been our vibe so far. I busied myself cleaning my room, and when the notification chimed, it sent me diving across my bed.
