Gage and Morton walked in and found Nicholas Jamison behind his desk typing away.Neither man said anything and waited on the DA to speak first.A few minutes passed before Nick finished whatever he was working on and faced them.“Sorry about that, had to get that off to the Judge on a case. How are you, Gage?Hank?”
“I’m good Sir.My wife told me to tell you that she is thrilled you’re running.Personally, so am I.”Morton smiled.
“Thank you.Gage, it’s good to see you back to work.”Nick said.
“It’s good to be back Sir.How’s Mama Deb?She ready for this circus?”Gage grinned, his professional mask slipping into place.
Nick gave a sarcastic snort, “You kidding me?She has my whole champaign planned out starting with this little trip to San Antonio.”
“So, Mrs.Jamison will be accompanying you” Morton question.
“For a few trips yes.She says that it’s important for her to show her support for me running. She will be going to San Antonio next week, and then the Dallas, and Houston trips after the New Year.I figure while I’m doing the politicking in Dallas and Houston, she will be visiting the kids and grandkids.”Nick answered.
“That sounds like her.Killing’ two birds with one stone.”Gage laughed. He then grew serious, “Sir, we should go over the itinerary for San Antonio.Ethan has already selected the members of Bravo and Charlie that will be going.”
“Right, right. So, I figured we would drive there if that would be doable. We’ll be staying near the convention center.Deb has booked the rooms for your guys after talking to Ethan about how many he was sending. The first night we will be attending a Spurs game.I managed to get tickets for your men as well. Here’s the rest of the schedule for the week we will be there.”Nick stated handing them both copies of the trip.
“We’ll get this to not just Ethan, but the guys going on the trip.I will be one of them. The Dallas trip will be Gage and for Houston it will be both.We figured this would keep things fair.”Morton replied as he read the itinerary.
“I know Dallas isn’t until January, but while Morton is gone, I will get to work on the logistics for it.Figured it would be best to be ready.”Gage added.
“Sounds like a plan.I will do my best to keep you all appraised of any changes as soon as I know of them.Of course, we all know sometimes that is not possible.”Nick stated.
“Very true.I understand that when doing stuff locally you won’t need as many of our guys for security?”Morton inquired.
“That’s right Hank.If I’m giving a press conference here at the courthouse, I will use the building’s security team.Same for smaller engagements. The bigger things, I will want Blackout there, but I may only need two or four men.As for travel, we will plan more after the first of the year.Sound good?”Nick explained.
“Sounds good to me Sir.Hank?”Gage nodded.
“I like it.I know some of this office’s security and they are good guys and well trained.”Morton agreed.
“Unless you need anything else Sir, Hank and I will get back to the office and start the ball rolling on San Antonio. If anything comes up just call me or Hank.We should have everything finalized by Thursday.”Gage said.
“Then I will leave it to you and will call you if anything changes.Thank you, gentlemen.”Nick smiled as he rose and extended his hand.
Gage and Morton both shook Nick’s hand before they left his office.Gage and Morton hurried to the elevators. As Gage and Morton climbed into one of Blackout’s SUV’s, Gage hoped it really was just residual nerves.
‘Please let this be nothing.’Gage thought as Morton steered the vehicle toward Blackout, calling Ethan as he did.

Stacey blinked hereyes opened. She felt herself frown as her surroundings started to come into focus.A steady beeping was coming from her left. There was an antiseptic smell in the air.Why the hell was she in a hospital room? Then her body caught up with her brain and the pain hit.A hiss escaped her lips when she tried to sit up.
“Whoa, whoa, easy there doll.”
“Grant?”
“Here, let me help you.”Grant said, his arm slipping underneath her.Slowly, he helped her sit up.“That’s it, nice and slow.”
“What happened? Why am I in a hospital?”Stacey asked, her voice sounding strained as the pain filtered through her.
“Stacey, tell me what you remember.”Grant instructed, handing her a cup of water.
Stacey started to reach for it but froze.Looking down at her right hand, she saw it was in some kind of brace.“Grant...what....”
Before he or Stacey could speak again, there was a knock at the door.A second later, it eased open, and Shawn Wilson walked in.“Hello Stacey. How are you feeling?”
