Cord chuckled, “Then what’s wrong? When you told me, you looked sad almost?”

Moira sighed, “I guess I don’t want to share you this weekend. In two weeks, I’ll be booked solid till November and we won’t see much of each other. And from what you said, your bars are getting busier and busier. But when ma insists on something, you donna say no.”

Cord hugged her close and kissed the top of her head, “I know what you mean there. My mom is the same way. Moira, we have the whole weekend together. If you just want us to stay right here in this apartment, ordering take-out, watching movies, and having sex then that’s fine with me. If tomorrow you want to drag me to all your favorite places in DC, I’m up for that too.”

Moira was floored. She grabbed his beer, sitting his and hers on the coffee table, she climbed into his lap, cupping his face, “Cord, do you mean it? If I wanted to be completely selfish and lock you and I here till Sunday dinner you wouldn’t be mad?”

“Baby, I meant it. Whatever you want to do we’ll do. I just wanted a weekend with you and don’t care what we’re doing. Of course, being a red-blooded man, I wouldn’t turn down being locked here with you having sex all day and night.” He teased.

Moira laughed and hugged him. “How did I get lucky to find you?” She pulled back and kissed him softly. “Okay, how about this? The rest of today and tonight we just veg out, clothes are optional,” she winked, making him grin rakishly. “Tomorrow morning, I’ll take you to my favorite breakfast place. Maybe we could take a walk around the rose gardens and then after that we’ll just wing it. Sound good?”

“Sounds perfect Moira. Kind of sounds like our time in St. Lucia. Nothing concrete, just seeing what happens.” He agreed.

“Aye. I’m not much of a planner outside of my writing.” She smiled.

Cord

Hours later, Cord lay in Moira’s bed feeling completely at peace. He glanced down and felt his lips curl up in a smile at what he saw. Moira was naked, curled up against him, her head on his chest sound asleep. All day they had snacked on Chinese, watched movies, and made love off and on. All naked. Well, they had stripped down after lunch anyway. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt this relaxed and sated. Oh yes, he had been relaxed on St. Lucia, but here, in this moment it was different.

‘Could it be because I’m head over heels in love with her?’he wondered.

Cord may have fallen in love with Moira on St. Lucia, but the longer they were together, he felt himself becoming more and more content with being near her. No woman had ever made him feel the way that Moira did. That made him more determined to move ahead with his secret project. He had crunched the numbers before and then Collen had told him about Al’s findings and then the Five Finger Death-punch concert. When he returned to New York on Monday, he would reach out to Collen, Al and a few others and set up a meeting. It was time to reveal his idea to them.

Kissing Moira’s forehead, he pulled her closer and started drifting off himself. If everything worked out as planned, by this time next year things would in place and the whole distance issue he and Moira currently faced would hopefully no longer be an issue. One way or another. Those were his last thoughts before sleep overcame him and he joined Moira in the land of sleep and dreams.

Chapter 18

Moira

Moira sighed as she stepped out of the shower. She was half-way though her book tour and yet another hotel. She thought she was in Austin, Texas, but wasn’t one hundred percent sure. Ah, the joys of touring. Yet despite the exhaustion, Moira loved it. It gave her a chance to interact with her fans and sometimes other authors. Entering the bedroom, she headed for the closet to pick out what she would be wearing for the mixer tonight. She was here for not only her book, but also was participating in an author event. Tonight, was the mingle mixer, tomorrow she was speaking at a workshop in the morning and after lunch was doing a signing. She had just pulled on the flowing summer dress when her cell beeped. She reached over and plucked it up from the nightstand and couldn’t stop the smile when she saw it was Cord.

“Hey boyo.”

“Hey yourself beautiful. How’s it going?”

“It’s going. I’m fixing to head to a mingle mixer down in the ballroom.”

“Sounds like fun.”Cord laughed.“How’s the tour going? You knocking them dead?”

Moira chuckled, sitting on the bed as she buckled up her heeled sandals, “I donna know about knockin’ them dead, but it seems to be a success. At least that’s what the publishing house keeps saying. I only have about another two weeks and then I get to go home.”

“Well, how about instead of heading home, why don’t you swing by New York. Maybe stay a day or two before heading back to D.C.? What do you say?”

“I say, you’re on Cord. Should I call or just show up?”

“Tell you what, stop by the Manhattan location. I can give you the key to my place where you can grab a shower and relax for a bit. Okay?”

“Alright. I may have to do a bit of shopping then. I didn’t pack any clothes for the weather in New York this time of year.” Moira laughed.

“Then I’ll take you shopping. Give me a chance to see what I’ll be taking off you.”Cord replied.

Moira had to bite back a moan at what his words promised. “Well, I gotta run or I’m gonna be late. I love you and I’ll see you in two weeks.”

“Love you too baby and can’t wait to see you. Have fun.”

Moira was still smiling when she hung up, slipped her phone into her clutch, and headed for the door. She made her way downstairs. When she entered the ballroom, the mixer was just getting started. Moira waved to a few authors she recognized as she moved through the crowd, looking around for the coordinator that her publishing house had sent along. After a few moments, Moira spotted Greg.

“Hey Greg.” Moira greeted.
