“He told me he was falling in love with me. I said the same. Christ Roxi, I love him.”

“I’m happy for you. Lord knows you deserve someone after the shit that Phillip put you through. I don’t want to put a damper on this but, he lives…”

“In New York and I’m in DC. Aye, we’ve brought that up and this is both of our last week. But New York isn’t far. I could go visit him and he visit me, or even meet somewhere in the middle.” Moira pointed out.

“That’s true. Well, I’m sure you two will figure it out. When are you going to tell your parents?”

“I was thinking maybe today.” Moira replied.

Cord

Cord put his plate in the sink just as his phone rang. “Hello?”

“Hey big brother. How’s paradise?”

“It’s amazing Collen. How are things at the bars?”

“Everything is going just fine. We’re ahead on the renovations and the place will be ready to open back up Friday night. I figured you’d want to be here, so I pushed it back till Wednesday.”

“No, go ahead and open on Friday.” Cord said.

Collen was silent for several moments,“Um, okay, who are you and what have you done with my brother?”

Cord couldn’t help but laugh, “Collen, I’m fine. Look, if I tell you something, can you keep it under your hat. At least till I get back?”

“You want me to keep something from mom and dad?”

“Just for a short time. I’m going to tell them but…damnit I must tell someone or I’m going to bust.

“Fine, I’ll keep it quiet. It’s not bad is it?”

“No, nothing bad. Collie, I met someone. No, not just someone, I’m in love.” Cord rushed out.

Cord quickly and excitedly told his brother and best friend all about meeting Moira and all the things they’d been doing. He told Collen how everything about her just intrigued him more and more. How he couldn’t wait to talk to her as soon as he woke up and that she was the last person he spoke to before falling asleep. “God Collen, I’ve never felt so connected to someone the way I feel connected to Moira. It’s like, kinda like you and me but different at the same time.”

“Moira?”

“Yeah, her name is Moira Donovan…”

“Wait one damned minute. You aren’t talking about the internationally bestselling author Moira Donovan, are you? The one mom is nuts over?”

Cord chuckled, “The very same.”

“I’ll be damned. When mom finds out she’s going to flip.”Collen laughed.“Does Moira know that you’re a multi-millionaire and one of the most eligible bachelors in New York?”

“I don’t think so. Look, she and I still have some logistics to work out. I live in Manhattan and she lives in DC. All I do know Collen, is that I love her, and she loves me. The rest is details we’ll figure out.” Cord sighed.

“I hope it works out for you brother. Alright, I’ll keep this quiet. When were you planning on telling mom and dad?”Collen asked.

“I don’t know. I need to talk to Moira. Until today I haven’t said a word to anyone. I don’t know if she has yet or not.” Cord answered.

Moira

Moira climbed out of the Uber and spotted Cord walking toward her with a bright smile. She felt herself smile as she moved toward him. When she met him, he pulled her into his arms and kissed her softly. Moira melted against him and wound her arms around him. Slowly Cord released her. He tucked her into his side and steered them toward the restaurant he had picked. Moira lay her head against his shoulder. Suddenly, a feeling of guilt settled on her. She drew a breath and started talking.

“Um, Cord, earlier today I…you see Roxi called and I kind of, well, I told her about you.”

Cord stopped and turned so he was facing her. “You did huh? Well, I should confess and let you know I told Collen. He promised to keep it to himself for now. Will Roxi do the same?”
