“I don’t want you spending a lot of money. I’m happy with a hamburger, or I could cook something here.”
Christian grimaced. He liked a hamburger as much as the next guy, but he wanted to spend his time and money spoiling Harmony.
“We’ll get a hamburger another time, and there’s plenty of time for you to cook for me.”
Harmony paused for a moment. “Are you having a good trip?”
“Yes, I’ve done what I’ve set out to do.”
She waited for further information, but continued when he didn’t say more.
“Um, okay, good.”
Christian’s hand fisted in his lap. He hated the thought of hanging up. He could sit there and talk to her all night, but he knew they both had things to do. The quicker he worked and got things done, the sooner he’d get back to her.
“I’ll let you go so you can study, but I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Harmony closed her eyes against the irrational wave of loneliness she felt at that moment.
“Okay, night,” she whispered.
She turned and caught Nico and Connor staring at her and grinning. “What?” she asked curtly.
Connor shrugged. “It sounds like you guys made up,” Connor commented.
Harmony rolled her eyes. “You make it sound like we’re in a relationship, and we were fighting.”
“You are, and you did,” Connor replied with a grin.
Harmony pointed the finger at him and narrowed her eyes. “You keep teasing, and you get no coffee in the morning.”
Both men laughed and held up their hands.
“Yes, ma’am,” they said simultaneously and grinned.
Harmony snorted and walked back into her bedroom. She closed the door and leaned back against it as a big smile crossed her face. As much as she thought it was wrong to date her boss, she couldn’t deny her fascination or the feelings that bombarded her every time she talked to Christian.
Since the first moment, she’d felt a strong attraction to him, and for some reason, he made her feel safe, and they hadn’t even been together yet. She knew the fact that he worried about her enough to send two men to watch over her had something to do with it, but it was something more she couldn’t quite decipher.
She decided to put it in the back of her mind for themoment. She had studying to do and dinner to make.
Later, when she was in bed, she’d think about her feelings. She knew they were feelings she’d have a hard time explaining to herself and dealing with. Only time would tell.
Chapter Seven
Mondays started early for Harmony because she had a class. It lasted all morning before she had a break and then another course in the afternoon. The summer sessions were long every day, but they were only half as long as the classes in the fall.
She walked out of the bedroom the next morning, wiping her eyes and yawning. She noticed the men were awake and lounging on the sofa and chair, playing on their phones. She spotted the pillows and blankets she’d given them the night before, which were folded neatly and stacked on one side of the sofa.
“How’d you guys sleep?” she asked.
“The floors were hard, but we’ve slept in much worse places,” Nico commented as his eyes roamed up and down her body.
“I’m sorry.”
Connor shrugged. “We were fine.”
“How about some coffee?” she asked as she turned toward the kitchen.
