“Holy shit, are you feeding a fucking rat?” Connor blurted out and shivered.

Harmony frowned over her shoulder at him. “Please don’t yell. You’ll scare him. This is Danny.”

“You’ve named a rodent?” Nico asked in shock.

“He’s a mouse, and frankly, I don’t care what he is. He’s nice.” Harmony turned back to the mouse that sat on a short stool in the corner, and she fed him crackers.

Nico pinched the bridge of his nose and bit the inside of his cheek. He was torn between cursing about the situation and laughing his ass off. He guessed she wouldn’t be happy with either, so he kept his mouth shut.

The rest of that afternoon, both men lounged around in her tiny living room, played on their phones, read the magazines they got at the store, or got much-needed sleep they’d been deprived of the night before, standing in front of her door.

Chapter Six

Harmony sat in the middle of her bed and looked through one of her college books. She knew she should be concentrating, but she couldn’t get Christian out of her head long enough.

When she heard her phone ring, she jumped and sprang from the bed and raced into the living room, where she had plugged it in earlier.

“Finally,” Christian sighed when she answered.

Harmony smiled. “Hello, Christian.”

“Hello, Baby.”

Harmony bit her lip and tried to control the shiver that racked her body at the tone of his voice and the endearment he called her.

“What are you up to?” Christian asked.

“I’m studying, and the guys are hanging out in the living room.”

Christian stayed silent for a moment. “You’re okay with letting them into your apartment?”

“Yes. They’re nice guys, and I really doubt you’d send me anyone who would hurt me.”

“You’re right about that. Everything I do is to make you happy and keep you safe.”

She wanted to ask why. Why was he paying attention to her in the first place, and secondly, why did he think he could make his friends protect her when she didn’t need it? It wasn’t his job, and they weren’t even friends. The whole situation was crazy and confusing.

Harmony looked over her shoulder at the men and saw they were staring at her with grins on their faces. She huffed out a breath and turned her back to them.

“I don’t understand why you say stuff like that. We barely know each other,” she whispered into the phone.

“That doesn’t matter to me, Baby.” He cleared his throat and changed the subject before she could ask any more questions. “Is there anywhere special you’d like to go tomorrow night for dinner?”

Harmony bit her bottom lip nervously. “We’re really going on a date?” she asked breathlessly.

“Yes,” he replied in a gentle tone.

Harmony’s heart leapt in her chest. “I’ve never been on a date.”

Surprised, Christian sat back in the hotel chair. “Seriously? Why?” he asked, shocked.

“I took care of my dad, and then I was busy with work and school.”

Christian sucked in a breath. Everything he was learning about the woman made her more appealing. He’d never thought of having a serious relationship, and definitely not marriage. With her, he knew it wouldn’t be long until he was head over heels in love with her. He also knew he wouldn’t ever let her go.

“I’m taking you to a nice restaurant. You deserve to be spoiled.”

Harmony tapped her foot nervously against the floor.
