But what about these two girls? I know for a fact that the one currently getting her nipple sucked, Bella, has a boyfriend on the football team. And the other girl, Rachel, has an on-and-off relationship with some dude named Brad Pitt. No, notthatBrad Pitt.

So why the hell are they dry-humping in the hallway in their thongs?

David lazily steps towards the two girls, his face carefully blank, and whispers something I can’t hear to them. In the next second, Bella is on her back, her panties off and her hands twisting her nipples while Rachel eats her out.

And David…just watches. He doesn’t make a move to join in, though I can see the evidence of his arousal through his jeans.

“Oh, yes! Yes!” Bella screams, and I half expect every door to be thrown open and for the teachers to see two of their students doing…this. Whatever this is.

Wait. What even isthis?

Is it lust magic? Could it be? An eerie feeling creeps over me, and goosebumps rise on my arms, like I’m in the middle of a horror movie instead of a porno. Or maybe…a nightmare.

And then I remember Adam’s dream.

He was with Wade and Tim, right? Decathlon guys, who my brother has only met a few times. Why would a four-year-old dream about some high school nerds? I didn’t question it last night. But there was a demon there, right? Guiding that dream? Is there a demon here now guiding all of this? Is David just dumbstruck? I glance side to side. But I don’t see anyone else—no one’s here but me and David. Does that mean David’s…?

My throat dries out. David’s the one telling those girls what to do. Is he lusting them? Is he a lust demon? I blink as suddenly, my entire perspective warps and shifts and I feel like I’ve slid inside a kaleidoscope and everything is twisted and crazy.

Bahaha. No, Kat, you’re going crazy. These are just seniors with senioritis who want to experience the thrill of nearly getting caught in public,I tell myself. Because it’s nuts, right? There’s like a zero percent chance that my best friend is dating a demon.

A door opens nearby, and my head jerks to the side in time to see Janie St. James walk out of a doorway in the hall that’s perpendicular to the one David and the writhing girls are in. She can’t see them as she fluffs her hair and then heads towards the bathroom door.

When a moan from one of the girls reaches her ears, she does turn, however, and spots me. She raises an eyebrow, and I shake my head, holding up my hands right in front of me in an awkward “not it” gesture.

She rolls her eyes and starts to turn back towards the bathroom, but William bursts out of the same classroom she was in just moments before.

“Janie,” he says roughly. “You can’t turn me down.”

My jaw drops a little, and my eyebrows pop up. He’s asking her out again? That boy bounces between girls faster than a tennis ball does between rackets. Not that I mind.Say yes, Janie, please and thank you. That way, maybe William will lay off me.

I can see her grit her perfectly straight, pearly-white teeth. “There’s no way in hell, William.”

Footsteps.

I turn and peer around the corner, and dammit!

David hears Janie’s voice and leaves the pair of girls, who are either so close to orgasm they don’t care about getting caught or they really want to get caught. I don’t consider the third option—lust magic—as a true option any longer as David gets closer, and I search for a place to hide so I can continue to watch the drama unfold.

What? Wouldn’t you be curious about William too? Just a little bit?

I slide into an alcove that’s by the stairs, a miniature dead-end hallway that only has one door on the right housing a janitor’s closet. It’s a common make-out spot because it’s always in the shadows, but it suits my nosy Nancy Drew needs perfectly for the moment.

David turns the corner, and his back is to me. He leans against the wall and crosses his arms and feet, watching the William and Janie show and having absolutely zero qualms about it.

“Janie, we’re meant to be together. Prom King and Queen. Isn’t that what you always wanted?”

“I know you were stalking Katrina the other day, so get over yourself, William. It’s not fucking happening.” There’s a squeak and then a muffled thump of the door as Janie escapes into the girl’s bathroom.

I’m semi-disappointed. As high school fireworks go, that was as disappointing as a black snake. There was a little hiss, and that was it.

But then, unexpectedly, William whirls around and spots David. “This is all your fault!” he accuses, his voice a low growl as he stomps towards the football player. Part of me wants to warn him to back off because rowing team versus football? There’s no way he’s going to win. Self-preservation keeps my lips sealed though. William’s been super stalkery lately…plus he saw that weird little magic thing go down and I’m still waiting for him to either confront me about it or tell everyone what happened.

“How is this my fault?” David asks calmly, not moving from his spot.

William runs a hand through his golden hair. “You said I’d be the most popular, talented guy in the school!”

“You are.”
