Our queen gathered all of our demon enemies.
And there are alot.
“Settle in, boys,” Lucillania says with a smug smile, just as all the demons finally take notice of our presence. Most of them hurl dagger-like glares at us, while a few—including the deranged stalker Lopexia—give us wistful, lovesick eyes. Well, she gives Van wistful, lovesick eyes.
Actually, I’m pretty sure almost all of them are giving him those puppy-dog looks, considering the fact he fucked ninety-nine percent of them.
Yeah, our sweet Van was a little bit of a player before he met and fell in love with Katrina.
“Fucking hell,” Raz gripes.
Cal, the demon in glasses from the Christmas realm, has the opposite reaction of my murder’s leader. Cal smiles and rubs his hands together. “Oh, I can just sense all the lies bubbling up on the tips of their tongues. This is gonna be great.”
And so we begin.
* * *
The first demonwe interview is Biel. He’s actually not a bad dude, so I don’t understand why he’s included on this list. Sure, a few centuries ago, we attacked his demon murder, but no one died. Or got seriously injured. Or was maimed beyond repair.
I call that a win, especially since we have Akor and Kastros on our side.
And because of that attack, they were able to meet their Center, a lust demon like Van.
Biel’s currently shirtless, his black, veiny wings erupting from his muscular back, while dark ram horns curve out of his light brown hair. He folds his arms over his chest and levels us with an unreadable look.
We’re currently in a separate room, located just off the jade room where all of the demons have gathered. It consists of a single table constructed out of distressed mahogany wood and a collection of mismatched chairs, all of which are currently occupied. It might look at first glance like a carbon copy of one of those detective show interview rooms, where they walk in the wrong perp and make funny quips. It’s not. There are panels in the floor that open up so that you fall right through them. Might not seem like a big deal to a bunch of demons with wings, but the edges of that hole are lined with lasers that will burn your wings right off. Then you fall from this realm, through the veil, all the way into the human realm, twenty thousand feet below. Demons don’t get the luxury of passing out halfway through the fall. So that landing is really unforgettable. Or so I’ve been told.
“I heard you found your Center,” Biel muses, looking smug as fuck, especially since Raz told him just a few years ago that he would never, everallow himself to settle down with a girl. That he would kill his Center before he allowed himself to love her.
“Biel,” Raz says in greeting, ignoring the man’s observation. “How’s your girl?”
Biel’s eyes immediately soften, the change so instantaneous and sudden that I would’ve missed it if I’d blinked. Bloody hell, is that what we look like whenever we talk or think about Katrina? No wonder we’ve lost our street-cred.
“She’s doing good,” he says, a tiny smile playing on his lips. “She’s with the other demons right now on Earth.”
“Let’s cut to the chase,” Cal interrupts, using his middle finger to push up his black glasses. I can tell he’s already antsy to return to Christmas Village and Joy. Gus, beside him, hasn’t stopped scowling since this whole mess began, glaring venomously at everyone in the immediate vicinity. “Have you or anyone in your demon murder been behind the attacks on Raz and his team?”
Biel blinks rapidly at us, confusion marring his handsome face. “What? No, of course not.”
Cal nods simply, turning towards Lucy. “Truth.”
“And do you know what happened to Adam Colt, younger brother of Katrina Colt?” Lucy presses, her lips pursed together slightly as she waits for Biel’s answer.
“I never even heard that name before,” Biel responds, to which Cal nods simply to signify he’s telling the truth. “Is that what this is about?” Biel queries. “Have you guys been under attack?”
Raz’s lips straighten into a grim line as he nods simply.
“Yes,” Queen Lucillania answers for him, reaching down to pet the head of her closest hellhound. “Have you heard anything?”
Biel shakes his head immediately, his brows furrowing together. “No, but I’ll keep an ear to the ground. I know my girl will be desperate to help in any way she can.” He addresses the last statement to Van, who smiles softly. Van and Biel’s Center have gotten close over the years.
And no, not like that.
Their relationship is strictly platonic, but as lust demons, Van has taken her under his wing. I believe he thinks of her as his little sister, and she considers him a big brother. She would love to meet Katrina. Actually, I’m surprised she hasn’t already barged into our house and demanded to see her. My guess is she doesn’t know about our sweet, innocent Center. Yet. The second Biel returns to her, I suspect we’re going to get a visit from the pretty lust demon and her psycho mates.
But fucking hell, I don’t want a lust demon anywhere near my sweet Katrina, even if that lust demon is a female. Male or female, it doesn’t matter. If a lust demon sets his or her sights on you, then you better start taking off your clothes. Even lust demons that I’m friends with and trust make me feel territorial.
I’m man enough to admit that I’m bloody jealous of Katrina finding anyone but us attractive, even if I trust her implicitly and know that she isn’t even remotely attracted to females.
