Did I just hear the word orgasm?Quinn’s voice popped into my head.

No,I snuggled into Ryan, unwilling to ruin this moment with Quinn’s silly antics.

You better not be having orgasms without me.

We were just talking about … chasms.

Quinn’s voice faded and I thought that was the end of it.

Until he popped back a moment later, growling,Bloss, you’re a liar!He must have read Ryan’s thoughts.

Sorry.

Oh, you will be sorry. I couldn’t even watch your thoughts because some damned Cheryn soldiers—

Are you safe?

Yes. But I’m pissed.

I’ll give you all the orgasms when you get back.

You’d better.

Go away. It’s Ryan’s time now. But be safe! And I love you.

He huffed but his voice disappeared.

Ryan chuckled. “Did Quinn just yell at you?”

I nodded and shrugged. “He can’t be there every time I have sex with you.”

“He would if he could.”

I giggled. “I know he would. He’s a horny bastard.”

“Who’s out risking his neck for us right now. That djinni came from Cheryn. Had to. He came with Cheryn’s party and was able to blend in. The Sultan did this. Now Quinn just has to figure out why.”

I turned in Ryan’s arms so I could better face him. “I know. And I feel like it’s my fault he’s out there.”

Ryan jerked his head back, skepticism coloring his features. “That’s his job. He’s a knight.”

“But he’s only going to Cheryn to check on the whole Abbas thing because Abbas attacked me twice. I think he thinks someone out there wished I’d die.”

“Djinn can’t grant death wishes. They can’t kill directly with their magic. It’s one of their limitations. That, and you can’t wish for something you’ve already had. Djinn can’t put things back exactly as they were.”

I shook my head. “I know. I just have this feeling Quinn’s right. Whoever sent Abbas is clever. They might have found a way for him to wish for my kingdom or my crown, or something that implies my death without actually stating it.”

Ryan tucked me back into his chest. “Well, I’d never let that wish come true.”

I shook my head against Ryan’s pecs and let my hand rest against the soft rise of his abs. “You didn’t see him in the dungeon. Abbas was crazy. Scary. I’m certain he wants to kill me. If I die—” I shot up straight in Ryan’s lap. I scrambled off his giant knees and turned to face him, eyes wide.

“I need to dissolve the law that makes knights follow their queens into death. I need to do it now. In case—” I grabbed my chemise, but it was too ripped to throw on. I walked toward the bell pull to call for Ginnifer, but Ryan’s arm stopped me.

“Don’t. Don’t change the law.”

His answer surprised me. I met his chocolate eyes and asked, “Why not?”

He grabbed my hands and encased them in his. “Because I want you to trust me. Always trust me. And the others. We’re yours. You’re ours. I want us to be tied together. It’s important.”
