Not wanting to anger his captain, D’Aakh diligently follows Nikolai’s orders. Since the stupid Russian keeps saying no sex, we’ve only ever used our bed to sleep together. As in, sleep-sleep, notsleep-sleep.
He touches me occasionally but I never let him bring me to orgasm. It just doesn’t feel right. If he can’t come, then I won’t, either. It sucks but at least there’s a noble cause to my suffering.
Taking off the top half of my coveralls, I tie the sleeves around my waist so they don’t get in the way. Now, I’m only wearing a simple tank top with a bra under it, yet I’m still sweating.
Woops and laughter ring around the biosphere, coming from the pool under the waterfall. As usual, Ellen is there, learningto swim under the careful eyes of Nala and Faelin. The big red hybrid is heart-stoppingly sweet with the little girl, even though she’s not his daughter. Their wonderful family makes me long for my own. Both the one I left back on Earth and the one I could have with D’Aakh.
I always loved children but I’ve never felt the desire to have my own. Not at the moment, at least. Yet, after hours spent playing with Ellen, the four-year-old ball of pure energy, not to mention the constant exposure to Astra’s pregnancy, which she still hasn’t told anyone about, and now Z’Ree’s pregnancy, which she has told everyone about because apparently, it will only last for three or four months, my hormones are all over the place. Still, we can’t even have sex let alone plan babies right now, so my ovaries need to chill the fuck out.
As usual, D’Aakh is sitting on a bench in the corner of the room, watching the waterfall. Several people are lounging on beach chairs placed around the lake. The chairs were Astra’s idea and a brilliant one at that, but D’Aakh rarely engages with the others. It breaks my heart to see him separating himself from his friends like this, but I have faith it will get better.
At first, D’Aakh didn’t want to come in here. Now, he’s here every day. I suspect his therapist ordered him to come here and threatened severe consequences should he disobey that order, but I’ll take it. D’Aakh’s here, and being surrounded by friends is good for him even if he just sits and watches.
If only the idiot could get it into his thick head that no one here hates him! But no, D’Aakh has his mind convinced that he’s the crew’s pariah and he’s determined to act the part. If he wasn’t injured, I’d beat the truth into him that he is loved and valued but I’ll have to wait until Nikolai clears him for that.
“Hey.” I smile as I join him on the bench.
With an exaggerated groan, I remove my shoes and socks, marveling over the feel of grass under my feet. It’s alien grassbut, still, after a year of living in a megalopolis with no nature to speak of followed by three years on a tiny mining station, having my feet touch grass of any kind is a miracle. Another one. I’ve already had more of those than I deserve.
D’Aakh returns my smile. “Hi.”
He tried the doom and gloom routine with me but I quickly put him in his place by making him laugh so hard his rib cage hurt. Since then, D’Aakh’s always smiling at me, though sometimes those smiles look forced. Like today.
I snuggle into his side. “Do you want to talk?” That’s a part of our routine. I keep offering and he keeps refusing.
“No,” he snaps with such derision I tense up. Sensing it, D’Aakh wraps his arms around my shoulders and pulls me closer. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to snap at you. It’s just thattalkingis the last thing I want to do. I spent the last two hours with the therapist and…ugh. It’s a good thing that man is light years away, because if we were in the same room I would have strangled him already.”
I laugh and smack his thigh. “No killing therapists!”
“Pfft. You ruin all my fun.” Laughing lightly, D’Aakh rubs at his chest. It might ache, but at least his mood has improved. “Like this morning, when you wouldn’t let me make you come. Tonight,” he leans in to whisper in my ear, “I’m not taking no for an answer.”
A needy moan threatens to break free, my body immediately primed for pleasure. It’s been too long. But still, I made this stupid rule and I’m sticking to it. “I can’t. Not until I can return the favor.”
“You can.” His breath fans my ear, his lips so close they brush against the shell.
I shudder in delight, already wet between my legs. Wet and ready. So, so ready. Then his words register. “I can? But what about—”
“Nikolai cleared me for ‘light physical activity’ this morning.” D’Aakh chuckles. “I think he’s just worried you’ll hit him with a wrench if you have to go without sex for much longer.”
“I never threatened him! Not verbally at least,” I add. “Glaring doesn’t count.”
“It does when you’re known to bash people’s heads in for no reason at all,” D’Aakh teases.
I scowl. “Omni had it coming. Those weremyseka rolls! If he keeps stealing other people’s food, he’ll have a sweet tooth without actually having any teeth. Wait a second. Why are we sitting here talking when we could be in our room having sex?”
D’Aakh’s resounding laugh is so loud that everyone by the lake turns their heads, grinning and waving at us. “Well, I’m free anytime,” he says. “You’re the one who has to work.”
He’s bitter about not being allowed to go back to work but I’m glad Zarkan banned him. In his ridiculous quest to win back the friends he never lost, D’Aakh would work himself to death.
“It’s a hard life being a sugar mamma.” I laugh at D’Aakh’s eyes rolling at my stupid joke. “But I’m off work now, so what’s a girl gotta do to get some cock around here?”
D’Aakh’s breath sucks in raggedly as his bulging cock moves and searches eagerly for a way out. “Lucía…” he moans as he adjusts himself. “You’re killing me.”
“It’s a good thing you have so much practice at coming back to life, then.” Springing to my feet, I grab his hand. “Come on.”
D’Aakh offers no protest as I lead him out of the biosphere. There’s some whooping and catcalling from behind us, probably from Omni, who likes to glide across the room to stretch his wings. I ignore it. They can think whatever they want. As long as I’m having sex, I don’t care.
We’re practically panting from running by the time we reach our room but we don’t stop. As much as I long to steal a quick kiss from D’Aakh, I know I wouldn’t settle for just one. I’d keepkissing him and before we knew it, we’d be having sex in the middle of the corridor. While the crew is pretty open-minded about most things, they’d probably have issues with that.
