“Is the surprise that you’re going off your meds?” Paulina asked suspiciously. “Because that’s a weird-ass surprise.”
“Noo!” Piper wailed. “Listen, you can’t tell anybody, because it’s still too early to announce. But, as you know,” she said, lowering her voice to a confidential whisper, “Jax and I were planning on trying for a baby after we tied the knot.”
“Oh my God!” Paulina blurted, her eyes widening with surprise. “You’re pregnant already?!”
“Yup,” Piper said proudly. “Six weeks pregnant!”
“Congratulations!”
Paulina embraced her sister with a hug and both girls rose to their feet, and now theybothjumped on the mattress and squealed a long note of pure happiness.
“When did you find out?” she asked.
“Right when we got back from our honeymoon. That’s why I had to stop taking my narcolepsy meds. So, fair warning, I’m probably going to be a little loopy again for the next eight months, ugh.”
Paulina suddenly realized something. “Wait, six weeks pregnant? Six weeks ago was the wedding. Did Jax knock you up on your wedding night?!”
“Ugh, you know what? I really think so,” Piper said with a playful roll of her eyes. “I mean, look, I’m super elated. Ishouldn’tgripe about it because it’s really petty, and I know lots of women struggle with getting pregnant. So yes, I acknowledge I’m very, very blessed in that regard. But,with that being said, I had this idea in my head that maybe we’d have to, you know, workat it for a little while? That way he’d have to creampie me night after night for, I dunno, atleasta month? Maybe I could be blessed inthatregard, too?”
The girls shared a raucous laugh.
“Because I’m not going to lie, Paulie—that baby-making sex issuperhot. It’s so raw and intense when you’re trying. It’s like, you’re making love with this bigger purpose in mind. And you get this incredible warm and fuzzy feeling when he comes inside of you. It just makes you feel so … I don’t know …complete.”
“Ugh.” Paulina’s throat tightened with the steamy memory of Sasha losing control and unloading inside her. She’d felt the same exact way. “That’s really hot.”
“Sohot,” Piper agreed.“So yeah—I wouldn’t have minded if we had to try for another month or two. In an ideal world, it’d take long enough to get pregnant that we got to have tons of hot sex, but also short enough that we didn’t have concerns about our fertility or whatever. But nope. First try off of birth control pills andwham,I’m preggers. I guess Jax has super fertile sperm or something, because ofcoursehe does.”
“Can’tallbe Jax’s fault,” Paulina said with a snicker. “Sounds like you’re the proud owner of a super fertile womb.”
“Ha! If that’s the case, then you’d better be careful with Niko. Because remember, girl—we share the same genes. If my womb is super fertile, then so’s yours, probably.”
“I always am careful,” Paulina said, though part of her, deep in her belly, protested,Always, huh?
“Good to hear,” Piper said, and she hopped out of bed. “Anyway, let’s go make you some breakfast so we can get our day started.”
“Sounds good.” Paulina climbed out of bed, too. But as soon as she stood, a heavy nausea sank into her stomach. “Whoa.” Carefully, Paulina sat her bottom back on the edge of the bed and clutched at her belly. “Euch.”
“What’s wrong?” Piper asked.
“I think all that jumping on the bed upset my tummy, maybe? I feel sick to my stomach all of a sudden.” She wiped the quickly forming beads of sweat from her brow.
“Aw. Poor thing. Maybe you’re hungry? You’ll probably feel better after you eat a little food. How’s eggs and bacon sound?”
The sound of eggs and bacon made her stomach revolt. Before Paulina even knew what was happening, her insides were in total upheaval. Already gagging, she scrambled to her feet and bolted for the bathroom, barely making it in time.
Piper, always the supportive sister, wasn’t far behind. “There, there.” She comforted Paulina and held her hair back. When it was all over, she asked, “Didn’t you learn your lesson about taking pills on an empty stomach last time this happened?”
“Pip, I—” Paulina slowly turned to face her sister. “I didn’t take my pills yet.”
The troubled look in Piper’s eye told her she was sharing the same silent concern. “You don’t think it’sthat, do you?”
“No, it’s impossible,” she murmured. “I’m on birth control. I don’t see how—”
“When was your last period?”
“Oh, um—” Her eyes rolled back into her head while she thought it over. She wasn’t the greatest at keeping track of her cycle. “I don’t know, a month ago? I can’t remember.”
“Did you sleep with him without a condom?”
