“No, Tanner!” I squealed as I stepped into my panties. “We’re waiting until the time is right.”
I pulled my panties up my legs, keenly aware that Tanner was watching me dress.
“Fuck, you’re hot,” he whispered, softly grunting and groaning as he slowly pumped his fist on his cock.
Fighting the urge to tear my panties right off and hop on him again, I put my leggings on next.
“And you’re trouble,” I said.
“Seriously, though,” he said as he pulled on his joggers, “where are you going?”
“I thought I’d take Cujo out for a walk while you nap. Worried I was going to leave you?” I asked as I threw on a t-shirt.
“Yeah, a little,” he admitted with a heart-melting smile. “You never said if you’d stay with me or not, you know.”
I didn’t know what to say. As flattered as I was, and as much as Ididwant to stay with him, I knew I couldn’t. This trip was the opposite of planned. And while he swore he didn’t have a problem with the ratty way I was dressed, it’d surely be a different story once he realized these were the only clothes I had. What if he wanted to go out to eat? I didn’t have clothes nice enough to go to a halfway decent restaurant. Heck, what if he wanted to doanythingin public? I didn’t have the money to buy any new clothes, either. I wanted to stay with him, but how could I?
My silence spoke volumes.
“C’mon,” he persisted. “Live a little. It’s your Spring break. You’re on vacation, which is perfect, because all our games are at home this week. Stay with me—or at the hotel if you’d rather do that—and come watch us play. You’ll get to meet the guys. And at the games, you can sit with the girls—they’re great girls, Ainz. I’m telling you, you’ll make some friends and have a blast.”
“I’m sure I would,” I said with a reluctant sigh. “But I can’t stay here, Tanner.”
“Why not?”
I gritted my teeth. He wanted to know everything—he wasn’t a guy I could just brush off with a few vague details. Tanner wanted honesty which, after all the guys I’d dated, was very refreshing for once. I had to tell him, even if it was embarrassing to admit.
“Because I don’t have any other clothes,” I said, hanging my head in shame. “What I’m wearing right now is basically all I’ve got. I’m telling you, I didn’t plan this trip atallwhen I left home—all I brought with me is my camera and that backpack. I’ve got nothing else. Hell, even the dress I wore when we met at the club isn’t mine—it’s Marta’s.”
Without saying a word, Tanner rolled to the edge of the mattress and opened the nightstand drawer. He retrieved a brown leather wallet, plucked out a credit card, and held it out to me.
“Here,” he said.
“What’s that for?” I asked from afar, not daring to take a step closer.
“Whatever you need.” He waved the card at me, trying to stir up my interest and lure me over. “Dallas has great shopping. If you want, I can call up a few of the boys and see if any of the girls are free to show you around.”
My jaw dropped. “Tanner! No. I can’t do that—that’s crazy.”
“It’s really not a big deal,” he said, shrugging his round shoulders.
“Okay, wait. I’ve got an idea,” I said. “I’ll drive back to Kansas tonight, pack a bag, and come back first thing tomorrow morning.”
He frowned, not liking my proposal.
I sat at the edge of the bed and ran my hand through his hair. “I’ll comerightback, Tanner. I have plenty of good clothes at home—”
“But I don’t want you to go.”
“Not even for one night?”
“Not even for one night.” He stuck his credit card into my hand and made me close my fingers on it. “Seriously, Ainz, you can get whatever you want.”
His credit card was surprisingly cold to the touch and heavy in my hand. I held it up and stared at it.
“It’s metal?” I blurted out.
“AmEx Black,” he said. “They’re all like that.”
