We came apart and stared at each other. She’d felt it, too.

What was that?

I didn’t know, but I needed more to find out.

We came together again, a searing hot kiss between our wet mouths, her luscious lips turning tender and swollen.

“Oh my God,” she panted. “You’re such a good kisser.”

I kissed her heavier, harder. My hands slid along her curves, exploring her contours with the tips of my fingers. But when I grabbed a greedy handful of her round ass over her short dress, she pushed my arm away.

Shit.

I’d gone too far.

“Sorry,” I whispered.

“It’s okay.” She gave a quick shake of her head. “Can I have something to drink?”

“Sure.” I gesturedat my wine collection, thinking she wanted something to take away her nerves. “What would you like?”

“A glass of water would be great, actually,” she said as she took a seat at my couch. “If that’s okay.”

“Of course it’s okay.” I filled a glass of water and joined her on the couch. “Here.”

She took a sip and set it down. A loaded silence came between us. I was sure I’d blown it with her, but even worse, I felt like a giant creep after I’d promised to keep my hands to myself.

“Sorry if I’m being weird,” she blurted out, sounding almost nervous. “I think you’re really hot, Tanner. I just don’t want to do anything I’ll regret, okay?”

“I get you.” I nodded. I wasn’t sure what exactly that entailed, but I knew I didn’t want to make her do anything she’d regret. “Sorry if I was too pushy. Guess I got caught up in the moment. If you want me to drive you to the hotel now, I understand.”

She grimaced. “Well … maybe not just yet …”

Hm. I’m getting mixed messages here.

I pointed at the TV. “You want to watch something, then?”

“Yeah, sure,” she said with a smile.

I grabbed the remote. The giant flat screen bathed my penthouse in lipstick red as the Netflix loading screen appeared.

She snickered.

“What?” I asked. She didn’t want to tell me. “C’mon, tell me. What’s so funny?”

“I’m just wondering—are you a ‘Netflix and chill’ kinda guy, Tanner?” she joked.

“I’d never actuallysaythat to any living human being, but I don’t know.” I pressed play on the first old, boring looking movie I came across. “I guess, yeah, I am.”

“Oh. I see.” She paused. “Because I’m more of an ‘Amazon Prime and relationship’ kinda girl.”

“And you saidIwas corny.” I chuckled. “You’re funny, Ainsley. You make me laugh, you know that?”

The wholesome smile she gave me could melt a man’s heart … if he still had one intact, anyway.

The movie began to play and we turned to watch it.

Slowly but surely, the space between us on the couch shrank. I’m not sure who was to blame—I didn’t thinkIwas moving because I was careful not to make her do anything she didn’t want to do. And I’m sure she’d swear she wasn’t doing it, either. It just happened as if some supernatural or subconscious force were at work, like kids playing with an Ouija board. But soon, my knee touched her knee. And, instead of escaping, she leaned her leg against mine. A little bit later, my arm ended up around her shoulder, and I pulled her closer. We fit snugly together. Soon, her hand found its way to my thigh.
