“Whoops. Heh. Sorry, I’mma little tipsy.” Austen blushed heavily. She chased her embarrassment down with another big gulp of wine. She sang, “Aw~kward.”

My eyes shifted between the two of them. “I’m … not sure I understand?”

A long and uncomfortable silence followed.

“Okay,” Emma said finally. She let out a deep breath. “Can I ask you a personal question, Katerina?”

They had told me I could ask them anything I wanted. I thought it was only fair to offer them the same, even if I was scared of what Emma might ask me.

“You can ask me anything,” I said quietly.

“And you don’t have to answer this if you don’t want to.” She leaned closer and lowered her voice. “But is there something going on between you and Reavo?”

I felt light-headed and cool as the blood rushed from my face.

Uh oh.

Derek

Damn.

I knew I was in trouble.

From the very first second the confidentclick-clackof her heels announced her presence,I couldn’t keep my eyes off Katerina. Shewas simply stunning in red. The piece she wore hung gracefully from her slender frame, yet at the same time, clung to her tight curves and gravity-defying assets.

Yow.

It was almost like she’dwantedme to get caught staring.

Then she went strutting by me. And that’s when I knew, as a matter offact, that she was determined to get my attention. I could see it in her eyes. And oh, her plan worked, alright. It worked so well Ibumbled and fumbled my words, right in front of Jack frickin’ Hathaway, who already had good reason to suspect me of being a teammate-sister-fucker.

Even though I wasinnocent.

Mostly.

Okay, so I’d played her game and lost. That was one small setback. Didn’t matter, though. I was determined to be on my best behavior for the rest of the night. I was going to stay away from Katerina. No looking, no touching.

Yep.

If only I could keep my eyes off her when she went parading by a second time.

Good lord, the way her butt wiggles when she walks.

Okay, another small setback—but hey, when you fall down, you just gotta pick yourself up and get right back on that horse.

And believe me, I fuckin’ tried, hard,to keep my distance.

Well.

You know.

Until I saw her sitting alone on the couch, and my legs carried me right over to her. My heart pounded as I approached her. I felt nervous.Nervous!Imagine that. When was the last time a girl made me nervous? I couldn’t even remember. Had to have been years, at least.

I hoisted her off the couch and touched my hand to her back. The tension thrumming between us was even more powerful than it was last night—the meeting of our flesh was electric.

I promenaded her around the party, introducing her to everyone. I derivedwaytoo much joy from that. It felt like she was mine. Like I was showing her off.
