“How is it?” Hath asked, taking off his apron and joining us at the table.

My taste buds told me it was delicious, but I couldn’t even enjoy it. “It’s really good, man,” I said.

Hath beamed. “Thanks. Emma grew the basil and Mackenzie picked it.”

“And Jack made the wonderful pesto,” Emma added.

“Very cool,” I muttered, my heart sinking deeper into my stomach. “You guys are like a picture-perfect farmstead family.”

And I’m jealous.

Emma giggled. “I don’t know aboutthat, but yeah, it’s cute when everyone’s involved.”

“Well,” Dane began, “you must be feeling a little lighter tonight, eh, Reavo?”

“Huh?”

“One less Russian in the house,” Dane said matter-of-factly.

I froze.

How’d he know about that?

“What do you mean?” I stammered.

“The girls were just telling us that Katerina is heading back to Russia already,” he said.

Beneath my breath, I gasped. “She is?”

“She changed her flight,” Emma said, pursing her lips.

“She’s leaving tomorrow,” Austen added.

Fuck.

I guess I didn’t really expect to see Katerina again anyway, but hearing that she was taking an earlier flight made me feel awful. Now IknewI’d never see her again. And it was all my fault.

Hath eyed me skeptically. “She didn’t tell you?”

“Oh—” I stammered. “No, I guess not. I hadn’t heard.”

“That’s weird,” Dane said. “Well, it sucks that she had to leave early. But you do know what this means, right, Hath?”

“Nah, what’s that?” he asked.

“Now we don’t have to go to that symphony!”

Dane and Hath laughed and shared a high five, but their ladies weren’t amused.

“Um,” Austen began, “I don’t know where you boys gotthatidea, but we are absolutely still going.”

“Aw,” Dane said. “Really?”

“Yep,” Emma said.

The boys groaned.

“Hold on,” I said to the girls. “You two talked with Katerina tonight?”
