The evening flashes forward to later.

Trent takes a sip of wine as he stumbles up the winding path leading away from the beach. He’s piss drunk, so his vision is a bit blurred. Brie is by his side, helping him along.

Giggles rise from behind a big rock, and he peeks at the happy couple.

The sight of my sister kissing Cole stops my heart. Her hands dig inside Cole’s hair. She’s got him pinned against the rock but stops as Trent comes closer.

“Your taste in women is going downhill, Desirys,” Brie cracks.

Cole flips her off and twines his fingers with Allie’s. “Come on, Sabrina. Let’s find somewhere more private.” Cole ushers my sister away, and she gives Trent and Brie a long, haunting look before following Cole into the darkness.

My insides turn to stones.

I curse myself for believing him. How could I let my guard down around a manipulative Fae prince?

Stupid.

Naive.

Fucking idiot.

Cole comes backto school in time for the S&S final. His mother arranged everything so the three immortal victims of Olson’s hardcore prank won’t be penalized by the events of last week.

I didn’t rat the warlock out. However wrong I think he was, he’s on my team.

The human blood on the roof freaked everyone out, but only the Fae believe that mortals are the only problem at Dark Falls anymore.

I refuse to look at the prince until Devereaux grades our spell, but by some twist of fate we’re the only two left in the classroom by the time she releases us.

My eyes widen when he grabs the leg of the stool that’s directly between my legs and pulls me closer to him. He leans over me and whispers, “Don’t act weird.”

“I’m acting weird?”

“You were sitting at the edge of the desk like I have the plague or something.”

“Youarethe plague.”

“Aren’t you glad you didn’t fuck him?” His voice comes out gruff and full of meaning.

I grit my teeth hard enough for them to chip.

He shrugs. “Darkwood hates me. Doesn’t mean he’s not on my side. Every immortal is on my side.”

“You erased Brie’s memory,” I say, thinking it makes the most sense.

“I slightly altered her recollection of the beach games. She was going to run her mouth about us. I thought you’d be grateful.”

I snort. “Why would it be so bad for you?”

“Don’t you remember the part about my mother banishing me to Fairy?”

He’s making sense. Fury pumps through my veins and warms up my blood into an inferno. The ends of my hairs shimmer with flames, and I shove at Cole’s chest with both hands. “It’s not just Brie. You lied about Allie.”

“Did I?”

“You’re fucking her and messing with her head. I saw you leading her away in Trent’s memory. You’ve had her under your spell since Halloween.”
