Out of all the tears rose a smile. “You’re such a sweetheart.”
“Seriously, it’s her stuff, not yours.” He paused for a moment. “Mom, I can hear the water running. Drop a citrus bath bomb in there, pour yourself a glass of wine, and let it all go. By the time you get out, you’ll be a new woman.”
Margot chuckled and wiped her eyes. “No one knows me like you do, honey. Thanks for the laugh.”
Jasper changed the subject. “I hear you and Carmen are coming to pick Emilia and me up. Since when did you hang out with her?”
“I ran into her the other day, and she suggested it. That okay with you?”
“Totally,” he said. “I’m just excited to get back to the mountain and see what kind of craziness has occurred while I’ve been gone.”
“Oh, it’s all quiet around here.”
“Yeah, right. I know better. Someone should write a book about that place.”
After saying goodbye, she slipped into the tub and took a long sip of her merlot. She’d forgotten about riding to the airport with Carmen. That was weird in so many ways.
