“Do you have far to drive still?”
“Nah, pulling off the New Hope exit now in fact. I’ll be home in five minutes.”
“That’s good. You can finally get some rest for those weary bones,” she teased me. “I’ll let you go then.”
“I wish you wouldn’t,” I mumbled to myself.
“What’s that?”
“I wish it were morning,” I stated to cover what she probably didn’t hear. “I’m excited for our next session. And I’ve got you all day, right?”
“All day,” she confirmed.
“Perfect. Alright, honey, I’ll see you in a few hours then. Have a good night.”
“Night, Nicholas.”
The pang hit me as soon as the call disconnected and low music filled the cab of my car. I hated not talking to her, not being with her. This feeling would only intensify if I didn’t manage to have her fall head over heels in love with me and move in before the first game of the season started.
It felt like a ticking time bomb.

Nat Soulmate Sister:
Ma’am! You better be dead in a ditch somewhere because I have not heard from you in far too long. You didn’t even answer my last text message.
This message lit up my screen Monday morning at the literal ass-crack of dawn. The first question I had was why in the world was she texting me this early, and second, why was my phone on?
I peeked at the time, 6:30 a.m. To me, that was still considered the middle of the night. But I was one of those sleepers, once I was up, I was up. Fuck, this sucked.
No ditch. But I was in my bed, dead to the world. Thanks for waking me.
WHY are you texting me this early? How much bail money should I bring?
Nat Soulmate Sister:
Har-har. Very funny. I have a real job now, and it’s Monday morning. I’m getting ready for work. And you never answered my text last week. WHY did you not answer? You always answer.
Oh.
Nat Soulmate Sister:
Yeah, “oh”. What gives? What, or should I say WHO, has you distracted?
I’m just trying to figure my life out, I guess.
Nat Soulmate Sister:
And how’s that working out for you?
Some days are better than others. How about you? Got life all figured out?
Nat Soulmate Sister:
Some days I think. Others… I slide back. But on average I’d say the girl math indicates that it’s going pretty well. I’m even going to go visit my brother soon. Shocker, I know.
