“Only if they don’t see you, and even then your ass might get dragged back. I usually take naps in my own bed. Bren has been hunting me down as soon as he’s free to do so after he realizes I’m missing.” He brought out a first aid kit.
“Oh.” My chest shuddered.
Jett held out a tablet. “Here.”
“What is it?” I eyed it.
“It keeps you from getting UTIs during a heat. Believe me, that isn’t something you want to be dealing with after.” Jett handed me a bottle of water.
“Oh. That makes sense.” I took it and drank some of the water.
Now Jett had a big tin. Opening it, inside were tiny tins, holding different colored gummies.
“Are those drugs?” That was quite the assortment there.
“Legal recreationals.” He held up one with little pink gummy strawberries. “You don’t have to, but I got this one especially for you since you were so nervous. It’s a mild relaxant and takes the edge off. It’s what you take when you’re going to a theme park when you don’t like rollercoasters or a party when you don’t like people.”
“Oh, thank you for thinking of me.” I took it and eyed the other things as he pulled out one with green lightning bolts.
“These are what I use when I’ve been on duty for three days straight during an emergency and have to function. Do I take this one or that one?” He held up one with orange hearts. “Betas sometimes take these to help them enjoy a heat better.”
“Oh?” I reached out.
“Maybe next time, when we know how pheromones affect you.” He put the hearts back and took two lightning bolts.
“The doctor at the clinic said to pay attention, since with gammas it could range from no reaction whatsoever, to being buzzed like a beta, to being driven into a heat spike. Which given my fucked up hormones, isn’t likely.” I sighed. “Yeah, TMI.” I held up one filled with little colored bears. “And these?”
“Evan’s favorite to unwind after a rough day.” He grinned.
I heard the sound of a door and nerves shot through me. I took one of the strawberries.
He put a few bottles of water in his arms. “They told us that you’re from another world. That’s really trippy but given all the really common things you don’t know–and random things you do–it makes sense.”
“Yeah, I’m a stranger from a strange land. I was afraid. I’m sorry.” The tears started again.
“Let’s get you upstairs. I can’t purr for you, but they can.” Jett’s voice went soft, as he put his free arm around me.
A low growl vibrated through the room, one that simultaneously overwhelmed me and made me gush. The scent of pine filled the room to the point of suffocation. My knees grew weak as fear washed over me.

“I’m sorry. I know I should have told you, but I didn’t know how you’d take it. Telling people weird stuff hasn’t gone wellfor me before. I didn’t know they were coming to take me.” Overwhelmed, I fell to his feet as pain shot through me.
