I took the phone. “Hello?”
“You’re out?” Wes asked.
“Yeah, I am… I…” While I was with Spencer, I wanted Wes and Evan, too.
“Oooh, I feel that. We’re coming to you, okay?” Wes assured, sending love though the bond. “I’ll love you to the end of the universe. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
Yes, please. I needed them. My mates. My pack.
I was fromhere.Shit.
Chapter Fifty
Spencer
After she ended the call with Wes, Grace continued to sob against my chest, setting off every alpha instinct I had to calm my mate and make her happy.
My mind also spun, trying to process everything that had happened back there in the parking lot.I had nothing to do with it.Adriana had just admitted that Elaris’ accident might havebeen murder. I’d have the professionals look into it later. First, I had to attend to Grace.
“Tell me everything, Darling?” I needed to figure this out.
Grace told me what happened. None of this did anything to diffuse my simmering anger. How could they?
“This at least solveswhyRosalind didn’t want me to be good at math. She knew that the mathematical theories werereal. And if I managed to get back…” Grace grimaced. “I mean, I understand not wanting to tell me the truth, but there had to be better ways than hurting me.”
Andmaking her forget her mate.A horrible, terrible thing.
“She’s gone, and you’re here with us where you belong,” I soothed. Nowthatwas the type of brutal behavior that caused wars and genocides. The sort that condemned entire designations.
But not all were like that. The bit of information Wes dug up on Thora Silvers led me to believe she was just an ordinary young woman. If you looked at the data, most sigmas, or omicrons, for that matter, really weren’t that different temperament-wise from alphas. Societyacceptedalpha temperaments–violence, possessiveness, and anger issues included.
Not to mention there were alphas who did very bad things. It wasn’t like getting rid of certain designations eliminated all the horrible things in the world.
Maybe it truly was time to revisit Elaris’ research and find someone willing to take it on.
“Who’s Cassidy?” she asked.
“It’s a record with similar information to yours that was flagged as a possible duplicate. I am guessing that after Adriana sold you to Rosalind, she had a fake record made for you. If she was on the run from the law, and couldn’t assume your mother’s identity, a child would at least change her profile,” Itold her. “She took the money, you, and ran. Yet then somehow ended up in your world. I haven’t heard of naturally occurring portals accidentally taking people to other worlds, so it would be deliberate. Buthow?”
“All I can think of is that somehow your dad and Dr. K actually sent some sigmas to other worlds, and Rosalind and I were part of that?” she sniffed.
“That was my thought as well.” I could also see my father and Dr. K prioritizing families, considering both had children themselves.
Poor, sweet Grace. That woman had known Grace could become an omega. She probably saw, and smelled, the signs–andsquashed them. Brutally and painfully.
I texted Wes to see what he could find out about Rosalind and if he could discover a connection to my father or Dr. K. While we’d found the missing piece, we’d uncovered an entire new puzzle.
Grace had mentioned that there were all sorts of worlds. If my father was taking sigmas and putting them in worlds they might be unsuitable for, well, then I could see how the Temporal Authority might get a little upset.
“I’m right here,” I assured Grace, kissing her forehead, her cheeks, her lips, her jaw, her neck, while running my hands up and down her mostly naked body, grounding her, covering her in my scent, making sure she knew that I was here and would care for her.
“Drink some water?” I handed her a bottle of water and cleaned my hands with a packet of wipes. Because I knew what was coming.
Also, I needed to reassure myself that she was here, with me, and I would make everything okay. Somehow.
“I want…” Her sob turned to a whine, as her ass, only clad in a bikini bottom, ground against me, though she did drink half the bottle of water.
I checked to make sure the privacy window was up.
