“Do I apologize or flip you off? I don’t have it sorted.” Grace giggled.
“Scratch your nose with your middle finger; maybe kiss him harder,” Riley replied.
Grace kissed me harder. She tasted of cookies.
“Wowza.” Wes laughed as he drove off.
“We’ll make it up to you later.” Grace kissed me again.
“Let’s go home.” I opened the bag, took out the lidded container, and ate my ice cream while Wes and Riley debated hacker things and Grace snuggled into me.
You have such a cute family.Yes, I did.
Chapter Twenty-Five
Grace
Ilay on the big loveseat in the living room, the same room where I’d watched a movie with Jett and Evan that first night. Only Wes was my shirtless pillow. Evan was on the giant couch with Jett and Brennan. Evan and Jett were also shirtless. Spencer and Riley sat on beanbags.
Full of grilled steak, we were watching an action movie with the same actress we’d watched the other night, and the man we’d met in the theater, Antonio, one of Marcos’ dads.
Four dads. That was a whole lot of dad jokes.
I remembered that my dad used to tell me dad jokes. Usually to cheer me up after a fight with my mom. Once I reached puberty, it felt like we fought about everything. Why did I wear that dress to church? Why did I have to take so many advanced classes? Why wouldn’t I go out with so-and-so’s son?
The movie ended. Spencer frowned at me. “Should you be watching so many movies? You should rest your eyes.”
“Probably.” I shrugged.
Riley sprung to her feet, giving a stretch. “I should get some homework done. I put aside a cupcake to bring to Marcos for his birthday. It’s clearly labeled. If anyone eats it, I will cut you.”
She was probably going to text Marcos some more. They texted mostly by sending pictures. Like when he needed help with homework, he didn’t ask–he sent a picture of the math problem with a question mark drawn directly on it.
Earlier, Riley had shown me her room, and we made cupcakes.
“We’re still going hiking tomorrow?” Riley asked Jett.
“Yep. Who’s going?” Jett asked.
“Not me.” I yawned.
Brennan gave me a look. “Not outdoorsy?”
“I don’t think I could handle a hike tomorrow. I do enjoy hiking and camping–”
“And skate smash,” Riley chimed in.
She’d shown me a video of her favorite team. Skate smash was roller derby meets professional wrestling set at a rave–onice skates. It looked fun–and kinda dangerous.
“Skate smash is hot.” Jett shrugged.
“Wes, if you want to go hiking, I’ll stay with Grace. I have work to catch up on,” Evan said.
“I can stay, too,” Wes offered, arms still tight around me.
“Good, this trail’s too hard for you two anyway.” Jett grinned. “Bren, coming?”
“I think I will. Spence?” Brennan looked at Spencer.
