Power was back on in much of the city and the metro was running. While a lot of things were still closed, people started to venture out again. Tomorrow, or rather today, we’d go to Verity and Mercy’s place to see if anything else was salvageable.

I’d probably go into the office for a bit, too. More because I needed a little space. Sure, it had been a lot of fun playing board games and watching movies. Verity was conscientious about ensuring I had time with Grif. Mercy was a pretty cool kid. I could see those two living with us working.

Still, nerves frayed a little with us being cooped up together. Like Jonas getting a little obsessive about tidiness given the cleaner hadn’t been here since the snow started.

Or Dean trying to keep Verity all to himself today, which caused Grif to get huffy and bang doors.

A little space would be good. Maybe the empanada place was open and I’d bring those back for everyone–and some groceries, if there were any to be had. We were running low on fresh things.

Someone came out of the hall. Probably Jonas. I’d told him I’d make sure everything was locked up before I went to sleep. Unless he was getting up for a snow run in the dark.

Which he might.

The fridge opened, and the slender figure illuminated by the lightwasn’tJonas. No, it was Verity.

In only a T-shirt.

She got out a pitcher of something she had made earlier. Verity reached up and got a glass from the cupboard.

Oh.Onlya shirt.

“Nice ass,” I chuckled.

That ass waggled at me. “You want some of this?”

With a little laugh, she turned around and took a long drink, lounging against the counter.

Oh, did I.

“Still working?” She finished her drink and rinsed the glass, putting it in the sink, then put the pitcher back in the fridge.

“Just finishing up. Grif’s asleep?” I finished my email and sent it off.

“Yes. I was thirsty, and I can’t sleep. I need to get into my greenhouse, but we don’t have permission yet. But the greenhouse manager, who’s beenliving thereto make sure no one’s plants die, assured me that all my replacements have made it, even ones my sister sent, and are safe.” Anxiousness tinged her scent.

“Well, that‘s good.” I closed my laptop. It was dark except for the light above the stove and the small lights by the elevator. And the glow of the city since we’d opened the curtains as we ate the meatloaf and mashed potatoes Grif and Verity made.

“Yes. But I’ll feel better when I get everything set up, and Hale brings me the bulbs.” Verity moved to the glass doors in the dining room that opened out to the balcony. “Your view is amazing.”

“Oh, it is. You can’t sleep?” I stood.

“No. Sadly, not even a good fucking from Grif made me pass out.” She put her hands on the glass, which made the hem of the shirt rise, giving me a peek of bare ass.

That sounded like a dare. I came up behind her. My bare feet found a couple of beads that hadn’t gotten swept up after she and Mercy made bracelets earlier.

I’d known bracelet making was a thing in skate smash, but I hadn’t realized the players made their own.

She hummed, still looking out the window. “It’s sort of peaceful, enjoying the bustle of the city below but being way up here.”

I stripped off my sweats. “So someone needs to sleep?”

Pressing my chest to her back, I cupped her bare ass. We hadn’t had any alone time since I’d had her in her closet.

“AJ.” Her voice went breathy as my fingers entered her warmth. She moved a bit, and I smacked her ass.

“Don’t mind me. Keep enjoying your view. It is breathtaking.” I kissed her again, her skin tasting of sweat, sex, and Grif.

What a combination.
