Locked into him, I turned our sweaty bodies onto our sides. I snuggled him into me. Under the sweat, he still seemed feverish. His scent tinged with need, his perfume, andfuck me, alphapheromones filling the room.
If I had less self-control, I’d be in a rut by now. But Grif only had me, and someone had to keep their head.
“Have some water. That’s it.” I tried my best to get him to sip while not spilling it, then took a deep drink myself.
The sheets of the small nest were sweaty and tangled. The pack size mattress sat on an enclosed platform built into the wall of a room in the attic. Three walls surrounded it, only one of which had a window.
The sloped ceiling held a skylight. Outside the sky was still dark but starting to lighten. A waterfall of tiny lights separated us from the rest of the cozy attic room, which had a soft rug, a giant couch, an ottoman, a fireplace, mini-fridge, and a bathroom.
“Where’s Dean?” he whined into one of the many pillows that littered the space. “I want Dean. Where’s Verity? I want Verity.” Grif’s hand flew out, searching for her.
“They’re probably sleeping.” I couldn’t believe Jonas justtookher from the hospital like that.
Not that I expected him to leave her. That would be cruel. I’d hoped they’d stay in New York for at least a few days. I hadn’t expected Dean to go into heat, too.
“I need her.” Grif’s keen cut right through me.
“You have me. You’re okay,” I soothed, stroking his sweaty hair.
A new scent entered the nest. A growl ripped from my throat at the threat.
He’s mine.
“It’s just me,” Verity whispered.
“Kitten. Kitten.” Grif struggled against my knot. He stilled, realizing we were locked and it would hurt to wriggle out of it.
“Boundaries, Verity,” I grumbled. Shit. I must have forgotten to re-lock the door.
Her face appeared through the curtain of lights, as she partially intruded. “Grif, Tiger, may I please enter your nest?”
“Kitten. I need you so much.” Grif reached out, making grabby hands.
Verity awkwardly climbed in. She was completely naked, hair up in a bun on top of her head, and she had a bag in her arms.
“I brought some stuff.” She set a couple of things on the small shelf which had our water bottles, wipes, toys, and some snacks.
Then she dumped thingson the bed.Items that smelled of the others in the pack.
Nesting materials.
I hadn’t brought any of those. It had been enough to grab what I’d packed and order some food to be delivered to the cabin when I realized that the advice nurse had been right. We’d barely made it to the cabin.
Nothing like driving curvy back roads in the dark with an in-heat omega crying for your cock.
At least it hadn’t been snowing.
There hadn’t been time to wash sheets or anything, and I was glad we’d left everything clean with a sheet over the nest to keep out the dust.
“Verity,” I growled. “We talked about this.”
“Not about if he has a heat. It’s different. You… you can be in charge. What happens here stays here. I’ll never mention any of it. Please, please, don’t keep me from him. I… I can feel him.” Her voice broke as she turned and gave me a baleful look.
Aw, shit. Unlike the previous times Grif had gone into heat, he now was bonded–not just to me, but Dean and Verity.
I’d sort of forgotten that.
No wonder Dean got pissed when I wouldn’t let him in the nest.
